Re: Working for ASDA, any questions? Thanks for the help(Original post by huntthehaunted)
The union are useless. you best bet if your PSM is being useless, put it in writing and hand it to your PSM/GSM , and follow the grivence procedure, which means next step is regional, if you dont feel happy looking for the address in your store give asda house a ring

Re: Working for ASDA, any questions?
Hi all,
i had an Asda Magic Assessment last week which I thought went well.
For those who have one coming up:
Firstly some of the people didn't turn up so there were only 5 of us. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE YOUR PASSPORT!! Or you'll be turned away.
We were given booklets with what would happen during the day with questions for diffferent activities.
I was paired with an older women and we had to chat for 5 minutes making notes on each other and then present to the group.
Then we had to pick a product out of a bag and write down all the good points that you could show to a customer if trying to sell the product to them.
Then we were given a tour of the shop floor and had to go back into the room and write down 2 good and 2 bad points of the store. We then had to go back out onto the shop floor and ask 2 colleagues questions and also a customer questions.
We then had a talk about uniform, pay and health and safety.
I was VERYY nervous as it was my first group interview but I really enjoyed the interview as sad as it sounds..
The staff were lovely and made you feel like you fitted in.
I was told that we'd know either Monday or Tuesday, obviously it's Wednesday now and I haven't heard. Do you think I should ring them now or wait until tomorrow? -

Did you get hold of them? If not, I'd ring tomorrow to gently remind them that you're still around. After my second interview I was told I'd hear about within 48 hours, 4 days on I heard nothing so I rung them to ask whats going on, they told me then and there I got the job, I'd ring them tomorrow if you haven't already done so and askk whats going on, politely, ofcourse

Re: Working for ASDA, any questions?
How does the discount work?
Does the staff member and the nominated user each get a card? Or is there one card that is used between the two?
Just wondering, because a family member is now employed with them, and I would become their nominated user when they are eligible for the discount.
Thanks! -
Re: Working for ASDA, any questions? One card between the two, as long your name is on the back of the card and the family member that you're living with at the moment has nominated you and written that down.(Original post by moneyballs2)

Re: Working for ASDA, any questions?Usually by email, either after the initial online assessment or after the Asda Magic assessment. If you are successful, they'll call you.(Original post by Inspired987)
Hi, just wanted to ask if anyone could tell if and how Asda let you know if your application has not been successful.
Thanks -
Re: Working for ASDA, any questions?
Hey, I have been invited for a group interview next week. It is for night shifts over the Xmas period and they asked if I was willing to work Xmas eve/day and I said yes which presumably should be a good start as I can't imagine there will be too many applications? I have a few questions (as well as the one contained herein):
1) With regard to clothing: I don't actually own anything smart. The closest I have is black jeans and a black hoody with dark converse. Serious. Will this be an auto hell-no, so to speak?
2) What is the pay for night shifts/Xmas time as if I do get the job money really is key as I currently don't have any?
3) Will I have to go on some random 4 day training course?
4) I'm a larger gentleman, I wonder if Asda will even have my size clothing

Re: Working for ASDA, any questions?
OK so I've been invited back for a 2nd interview and they're putting me on checkouts for the "Have A Go" session. I am terrified. I hate tills at the best of times but this is a gigantic superstore and all I can see in my mind is an endless queue of people getting more and more impatient with my slow/panicky processing. Help! Any tips?!?!

Re: Working for ASDA, any questions?Really wouldn't worry about this - I was nervous because I'm big up top and I thought they wouldn't have shirts big enough to button, but on the group assessment day I saw the manager and she was 3 x my size and wearing an Asda shirt so...(Original post by paddy__power)

No idea on any of the other questions, perchance? -
Re: Working for ASDA, any questions?Well I only had my Magic assessment yesterday lol and I haven't been to the 2nd interview yet(Original post by paddy__power)

. I'd say be as smart as you can - trousers are best (definitely for one-to-one interview) but a couple of people turned up in dark jeans and no-one mentioned anything. I have a friend working at ASDA and her usual pay is £6.50, so I'm assuming that's the 'day rate' since they're an equal-pay employer. I think night workers do get more (~£9?) but that's only what I've heard and not what I've officially been told. I said I'd be willing to do night shifts too - solely for the extra £££

Re: Working for ASDA, any questions?I hope that is correct, and that Xmas is double pay: 18 pound an hour(Original post by AmyJ)

Re: Working for ASDA, any questions?Pretty much everywhere pays extra for such days but double is just a guess. Somebody will be by to answer my questions soon I'm sure(Original post by AmyJ)

Re: Working for ASDA, any questions? It's 6.15 when you start and that eventually goes up to 6.50 after your probationary period I think. You get paid time and a half for christmas eve and boxing day I think and are paid for Christmas day if you're shift is meant to fall that day(Original post by paddy__power)
