Apparently only 90 places available?!?

It could easily be true, most single honours will be around that number (lectures will be bigger due to natural sciences/combined/joint people). Remember though that they will give out a lot more offers than this as lots of people will reject their offers.

90 seems like a lot to me to be honest.

Seems about right. Some courses are actually pretty small. My current course only has 16 people!
Ohh well I'm glad 90 is about usual then, I thought it would mean they would be even more picky!

You can't look at it from the perspective that because there are 90 spots they are only making 90 offers. They're going to make more offers than they have spots for knowing that people won't meet their offers, will turn down the offer for another uni, etc.
