Re: Teaching society?Haha I think we all are, I'm beginning to get a little burntout and I haven't even had placement yet lol. What subject you planning on teaching?(Original post by $tar£reaker)
I'm doing a secondary PGCE.
Really enjoying it but tbh counting down the days/weeks to the holidays how
Depends on the uni, remember that the deadline for UCAS is Jan and so some interviews may be after that once they have had all candidates. I didn't submit UCAS till Jan so my earliest interview was feb and latest was end of April. Where have you applied?(Original post by Shynnagh)
I'm applying for a Primary Education degree. Still waiting for interviews though. Anyone any idea how long it should take them to give me a date? It's been 3 weeks.
Gosh! Thats the one where you do 6 weeks or so at summer school and then go straight into teaching isn't it? Crazy person(Original post by dita_parlo)
I'm working my way through the GTP course. It's really really tough and I'm finding every day a struggle TBH, but again counting down till christmas now. Only 42 hours more to plan
What age are you teaching?

Re: Teaching society?Nope, didn't even do 6 weeks at summer school, think thats teach first or something? I just went straight into teaching from September 1st 2010! It's been difficult, although had a brilliant day today, all day teaching, but exhausted now! I'm primary, in Year 2. When do you start placement?

Glad it went well though
is key stage 1 the age you want to teach?
I don't have placement till feb
which sucks, only have one placement this year but had 3 last year and think I may have 2 or 3 next year.

Re: Teaching society?
Just thought I'd reserect this thread.. what does everyone make of the changes proposed in the white paper? Theres going to be a shake up in exams/curriculum, teacher training, encouraging ex soldiers into teaching, a change in OFSTED and changes in ways in which children can be disciplined.
Some more info and opinions

Its going to affect most of us going into teacher/already in teaching. Any views/opinions welcome. -

Re: Teaching society?I think most of it is bad tbh - cutting teachers tv? Free schools are ridiculous too... I thought everyone was taught phonics during teacher training already?
I can see the unions kicking up a shot storm over most of the proposals... -
Re: Teaching society?I have to agree, teachers tv is a good resource especially for teacher training colleges and trainee teachers. As for phonics I though since the rose review it had become a part of most teacher training courses and if not then I'd be worried OFSTED haven't picked up upon it.(Original post by xKTx)

The idea of free schools is slightly worrying.. wont it lead to segregation? Middle class schools for the middle class and rubbish schools for the those of working class?
I think some of it is good but I'm not sure how they are planning on making schools do the traning and learning on the job although a good idea it can't be practical on a grand scale surely? Schools/resources are already stretched, when are schools going to find the money and the time to offer that level of support? -

Re: Teaching society? That's what I think about training and free schools... In the country they based the idea on, free schools have done just that so god knows why they thought it was a good idea... I think it'll end up that LAs hire people for teacher training... So basically like a university. Schools don't have the money or resources, plus it would restrict the variety of experience. I bet that Gove hasnt asked any teachers for their ideas!

Re: Teaching society?
I used to be on the old Teaching society thread under another name - glad to see it going again. Had to change my TSR profile as I was 'outed' by several of my ex-students (it wasn't a very good alter ego). Also we've been warned about being much more anonymous on forums.
So, I'm a long-time teacher of music and more recent teacher and examiner of Music technology in the Sixth Form sector. Reading through some of the more recent postings, it's reassuring to see such enthusiasm and energy coming into the profession. God knows, we need it.
Nice to meet you all. -
Re: Teaching society? It's all very cloak and dagger stuff, isn't it? I quite like having an alter ego, actually. Makes me feel marginally interesting.(Original post by Fingersmith)

I know; we've had inset training and now have a steering committee on the perils of Social Networking. I tried Facebook for a while but I see all my friends every week anyway and my daughters warned me that they would not be modifying their content just 'cos I was privy to it so I packed it in. The unnerving thing is that it seems to be almost impossible to erase your profile - it's still out there somewhere.
I teach Music Technology, and have taught IT so I'm supposed to be computer literate but in terms of my social life, I'm am solidly old school.
