TBH, around there you are going to have to commute a fair way to get to placements. Cambridge itself has placements as far west as peterborough, as far east as ipswich, as far north as kings lyn, and almost as far south as london.
As you're going to be spending most of your time im placement, be prepared to have to travel a fair bit, unless you get very lucky.
Otherwise around there Cambridge Uni is pretty decent (surprise surprise), as is Bedford Uni (a bit further west, but not as bad as Derby!). Anglia Ruskin has a PGCE course too.
In the end, PGCEs are all a much of a muchness, it's the same standards you have to meet, and it's all school focused anyway. My current school takes trainees from a famous red-brick, and a local poly, and both get the same treatment at our end.
