I really wanted to apply but I just couldn't afford it. Which is gutting, I just couldn't fork out for £30 audition fees and about £20 train for a chance of getting in. Hope other people had better luck!

I really want to apply too!
But I'm worried that if I do somehow end up getting in, I won't be able to afford it. Maybe I'll have to get a job...
And also how long is the course?
Summer is always a busy time
    Thanks guys
But I probably will go for it anyway. Just what are they looking for?!
I have two guy friends who auditioned last year who are such strong actors and they didn't get in and i'm like "ahhh"

sososo sorry I didn't reply sooner! If you love acting it is definitely the way to go, so many actors we watch on the telly today went there, so getting in is tough, but it's certainly worth it! It's kind of like a theatre company, with a casting audition every year (if you get in and become a member) for the summer shows. I think there are other performance based opportunities during the year aswell, they did the 2008 Olympics in China! But yeah, agents and casting directors go to a lot of the performances because it's so renowned for producing quality actors. You have until the 7th if you choose to apply, let me know, and ask me any more questions you have about NYT!

I applied! I thought I may as well go for it, are/were you in it? And is it relevant that I'm not doing Drama at Uni? I've applied for English...

Perhaps you should talk about other media in your application.

Just because you're not going to university to study Drama doesn't mean you shouldn't you're allowed hobbies! and if you get in, you could perhaps put it on a CV when you leave uni for a few years to show you've got talent :R

He's not 100% wrong, but obviously most NYT actors go into theatre if their 1) Good enough to get into it and 2) chosen as main parts for theatre productions.

But some famous people have gone into TV from it, but few go to NYT to get onto tv, it's as the name suggests, mostly for theatre.

But none the less, I'm applying this year and I might do Norman Bates monologue bit I haven't looked at the guidelines so I need to double check if itd be allow. But I did it for AS theatre studies and got full marks so, it should be allowed

Oh sorry, I was thinking about me personally as I'm interested in cinematography aswell, obviously it's amazing for theatre. And the technical side is amazing too, my friend is a member for costume designing and says she's given a lot of freedom and that it is very fulfilling.

Hey lemonpancake, I'm a current member of national youth theatre and can hopefully answer any questions you have the summer course is usually 2 weeks long and it's reeeeally great craic!! They always seem to run in august, sometimes they have two courses either beginning-mid august, or mid-end of august.
Please don't let the cost of the course stop you from applying, it can never hurt to try out! You will get help with the costs, but getting a job wouldn't be a bad idea to help out!
Also, please don't worry about others who didn't get in and peg your ability against theres! NYT has a diverse section of people, and you might be exactly what they're looking for. I can't stress enough NYT look for PEOPLE'S PEOPLE...someone who can work as an ensemble and isn't all about themself. Strong actors often seem to get turned away because they're all about being a one man show...NYT is NOT like this, which is why you meet so many lovely people! (not saying your friends were like that at all) but a lot of amazing people got in 2nd time round on my course, so dont't be disheartend! Competition is high! You'll have an ensemble workshop in the morning so it's really important you get involved and show them how great you are with others.
I really hope you decide to go for it! you'll have an wicked day, anything else you need answering just let me know

    hey thanks so much
I hope so! Thank you so much! I really am looking forward, just gonna go for it. Actually my friends were a bit like that So I'll guess I'll try my best in the workshop - but workshops like that are my favourite part of drama so I'm really looking forward to that, and I'll just do what I can with my monologue. Thanks!

Hi. I've got an audition as well on the 22nd, but I haven't even chosen my monologue. I was thinking of playing Nora from a dolls house, but I'm a bit confused. Right I know this sounds stupid, but since the monologue is supposed to be about 2 minutes, I don't exactly know what to do. Do I have to pick a section of the play where the character speaks uninterupted or can I combine say a section that my character speaks and then say continue with the next bit of her speech after the other character was supposed to say something?

Hi, as a reply to the above question, as long as it makes sense and you can speak for up to two minutes, I don't think it really matters. My monologue came from a book of audition speeches, but in the actual play it is not all one thing. Hope this helps Anna x
