Re: NGDP
Congrats to everyone who's been offered a job...people who were unsuccessful, what are your next steps?
Both of my interviews were in the last week of the interview period and in both cases the large majority of the people there would have been unsuccessful (12 applicants for 3 places, for example), so I'm guessing there's actually quite a lot of people who haven't been offered places? So much for the email telling us we were all 'successful' and this stage was, though a bit competitive, more about 'best fit'! (Not that I'm bitter/heartbroken or anything!) I'd be interested to know exactly what percentage of the people offered interviews were actually given jobs. Have emailed Ami on the off chance that some councils haven't filled all their places, but haven't had a reply yet and not really expecting one!
Had my heart set on this programme, so sad to get to the very final stage and then no further! -

I think it was essentially a case that half of the final 130 got jobs and the other half didn't. It was still extremely competitive even though we had all already beaten off so many people and it is really disheartening when you get so close only to be told you won't have a job at the end of it. If it is any consolation it took me two years of trying to get onto a graduate scheme and I have gotten to the final stage of a couple in the past only to be told I hadn't got a job at the end of it. Just keep trying you did brilliant to get to the final stage and just take what you have learned (get feedback from the LGA) and push on.

Re: NGDP
Hi all,
I was planning to apply for this scheme last year but things happened that meant I couldn't, unfortunately.
I'm thinking of applying this year and was wondering if anyone could tell me if it's anything like the Civil Service Graduate Fast Scheme? I was unsuccessful on that last year and am a bit scared the NGDP one is going to be similar, tbh! If it's different, could anyone give me a brief breakdown of what's involved in the application process?
Cheers

Don't rule out applying directly for local government jobs that come up such as trainee corporate policy officer or something like that. You can still be fast tracked in a job like that. Admittedly not many graduate jobs are coming up at the moment. If you've got a specialist degree you might be able to get a trainee post for one of the local government professions. Good luck!(Original post by comeluckyapril)

Re: NGDP
I've been contacted by Surrey - with a start date of 15th October. I'll hopefully be receiving a contract through soon, and I know my references are being checked.
I haven't heard from NGDP other than about expenses. Hopefully we'll have some news soon. If the national induction is a whole weekend away they probably won't leave it too long before letting us know.
Has anyone started a facebook page/group so we can share info? -
Re: NGDP
Hi everyone. Well done for making it through! I've been given a start date of 17th Sept with a 'familiarisation day' on the 6th Sept to meet the team and town clerk etc. My references have been checked, my contract is being drawn up. They will be sending me 'recruitment procedure' forms this week to fill out.
I'm curious to know what happens at the national induction! Ami is out of office until Monday so maybe we will hear something after that.

Re: NGDP
Has anyone spoken to Ami recently? I don't want to pester them as I know they're so busy, but I would really appreciate some info about the induction and things. I haven't missed an email last week have I? As it was suggested we might get some info last week as Ami was back in the office....
In terms of relocating, I'm moving closer to Surrey council, but still in London hopefully. I'll be using the spareroom website to find a flat share. I'm hoping it won't be too much hassle.

Re: NGDP
I was hoping to here more from the authority to be fair.
I still dont have my contract. The last time I spoke to the co-ordinator she said she was just drawing it up and was going to get it signed off and sent out but that was two weeks ago.
I feel really impatient because I dont start until the 22nd October but I really want something in writing. -
I'm meant to be starting in less than 4 weeks and still don't have a contract! This scheme is great but I wish the whole recruitment procedure had been more structured from the start. I do hope they give info about the induction soon, at least some dates would be helpful.

Do you have to give notice at a current job? That is really cutting it fine. I spoke to the co-ordinator at my authority yesterday and my contract is still being signed off.
This really is a waiting game.
