    What element forms the skeleton of amino acids?

    if nitrogen is so abundant why is it so hard to get into amino acids? and how is it done?

    Nitrogen is added as an amino group - NH2

    Here's a very simplified diagram, the most you'll need for GCSE:

    To be fair that is all I learnt for A2 biology and chemistry so I doubt they'd need to know that for GCSE. :p:
