They don't. Every single study into the phenomenon has concluded that, aside from a few isolated cases, virtually everybody who claims to have had their drink spiked was really just trashed through not knowing their own limits. It's an urban myth.


whether this is true or not, i'm not sure this applies to this article.
people suggesting that she just abused alcohol, surely the hospital would have done some sort of autopsy to see what caused her untimely death? methadone was clearly in there, the real question is whether she was "spiked" or took it voluntarily

There is a distinct possibility that she may have taken the drug herself before her death. There's really no way of knowing.
