Biomedical Science Society Thread
University course discussion for Biology, Biomedical science, Biochemistry, Genetics, Anatomy, Neuroscience, Pharmacology etc

Re: Biomedical Science Society ThreadI ended up choosing Warwick as my firm over KCL after getting offers from both. Although I heard QMUL has a good reputation for Biomedical Science, I don't really know much about them or RH. Warwick is a great university with a good reputation, but I will be biased towards Warwick because I study there(Original post by killerwhale)
Hey guys, sorry to come out of the blue but I have a choice that is seriously bugging me and that seasoned biomedics such as you could help with.
So I have 4 university choices for BIOMED:
KCL, Warwick, Queen Mary and Royal Holloway.
Any kind of list showing pros and cons would be helpful and if you have attended the unis yourselves, awesome.
Many thanks in advance.

In the end I decided that I would prefer to live in Warwick than in the KCL area, the accommodation is expensive there and I also preferred the modules on Warwick's Biomedical Science course. -
Re: Biomedical Science Society Thread
Hi everyone, thought I would look back over this thread for some motivation before I throw my toys outta the pram and give up!
I am a 2nd year Biomed student, and on the whole I enjoy the course apart from 1thing.....my marks are steadily getting worse!! I am soo frustrated (and annoyed with myself) I seem to put everything in that I think is relevant but apparently its a load of crap! I cant afford to be making soo many mistakes in my 2nd year....the 1st year was for that!
I started off this year getting 65% back for a critical review so that was good enough for me....then Microbiology coursework came back at a pathetic 47%!!!
I am soo deflated, I will be going to see the tutor for a lot of constructive critisism but this has just knocked me for 6!
I turn up to every lecture and practical and spend ages on the write ups only to receive a rubbish mark, I am obviously not doing something right as there are people that never turn up but yet the content they put in has been enough to get a really high mark.
Any advice or tips for me please? Thank you! :-D -
Re: Biomedical Science Society Thread
Hi, I understand your frustration, i struggled every step of the way with my degree, like you i attended every lesson, worked very hard with my coursework and got rubbish marks time and time again, but i perservered and i finally got my degree in 2010. I got a 2:2 which i was pleased with and no-one ever asks you what grade you got.
I used to write everything down and just go over and over it, i used the library and internet for everything, i work in a lab so was able to ask collegues for advice. There is a good study guide that i used and that had lots of information and ways of how to deal with work, practical write ups and lots more.
I wish u lots of luck and if i can be of any help please ask. I am just preparing for my final assessment with the IBMS and im still struggling but i will get there and so will you.

please and thank you -
Re: Biomedical Science Society ThreadLecture notes and reading the relevant sections the lectures give you of a certain book will help you understand the topic. I use the lecture notes as a guideline and read the book sections, then I look at the lecture notes to see if I understand them and I write notes after.(Original post by azz92)

I realized that's what I've been missing. I just crammed in lecture notes during the christmas period and scraped a 2:1 in the first semester, had I'd used the books to help me understand I would have got a first tbh. -
Re: Biomedical Science Society Thread
Im out on placement at the moment and i'm not missing exams at all!
Good luck everyone who has exams soon!
Remember:
Revise
Read the question properly
Heavily reward yourself at the end of exams and don't worry about results until the results day - theres nothing you can do in that period! -

Re: Biomedical Science Society ThreadI always find Treponema pallidum a bitch to remember for some reason.(Original post by hollywoodbudgie)
Microbiology test tomorrow...
I wish these pathogens had more simple names. It'd be all very well and good if I knew latin.

Re: Biomedical Science Society Thread
What are good universities for studying biomedical science. I have no interest in doing medicine or dentistry as a post degree and probably want to work in a hospital as a biomedical scientist if this changes which courses are best suited for me. Currently studying biology, chemistry, geography and environmental studies and want to drop chemistry at the end of AS. I will be starting in 2013 and am aiming for ABB/BBB. Thanks!
