Re: TSR Turkish SocietyThe concept of work, choose your own contemporary topic and relate it to the theories that have been discussed within class. I chose to talk about sweatshops now I've had to mention Marxism, Post fordism, Mechanical solidarity the ethical problems with overworking and made my main focus on the ways in which these "employees" in sweatshops get exploited by massive conglomerates I've found myself ranting on about Marxism and generically agreeing with him for the most part of this essay. I think Im turning into a communist or at the very least a passive leftist, my parents will kill me

I've noticed that ever since starting university and doing some reading into philosophy and Marxism, not to mention my current disgust at the goverment with the MP scandals, tution fee backstabbing and the whole coalition itself, I've certainly gone more left than I was before.(Original post by ChaoticSkills)

They're pricing the working class out of going to university which means only those very well off will be able to go. Police cuts as well, so much for keeping people safe how do they expect an understaffed police force to keep the whole country safe
Ah the tories, I really hope people realise the mistake they made when they voted them in. The Lib dems? I am not even going to mention them they broke their promise and I don't know how Clegg can look people in the face anymore.
Honestly I wasn't this much as a leftist in the past, I was all about Turkish nationalism
and pan Turkism since then I've pretty much switched my political beliefs. But still deep down I consider myself a patriot at the very least I like believe that I possess undying love for the motherland and yavru vatan

I'm not a nationalist, I'm a patriot and I've only just come to start to realise the huge difference between these terms. A nationalist believes that the state is of primary importance, whereas a patriot loves their country, and a country isn't defined by the country's group of people that comprises the government. I think that being patriotic is far more important than being nationalistic.

Pity my parents wouldn't get this if I explained it to them.

Patriotism is pride in a country. Nationalism is pride in a nation. There is a difference. A nation-state is generally thought of as a country formed of people overwhelmingly of the same ethnicity and historical background. So a nation-state is basically a country made up mostly of one "people" or ethnicity. A country itself is just the political state. -

I've never been to Turkey myself, and I am not very patriotic myself. But I suppose, pride can lead to some kind of happiness sometimes. Happiness is good.

If a party like MHP ruled the country Turkey would be run on old customs and would only increase the tension with our neighbours. Re: TSR Turkish SocietyWell the basic concept's of marxism regarding how the market works, use and exhange value pretty much sum up our shopping habits within this day and age still despite the fact that he wrote his manifesto two centuries ago. His criticism of capitalism is justified in some ways but there's a lot of loopholes in his arguments as well. I guess you need to take the good with the bad and make your own interpretation on what he's trying to say.(Original post by Tulin)
