TSR Amateur Athletes Society
Just an idea I had. No one ever really talks about sports in here, I guess the forum kind of has the muscle freak stigma attached to it, and any attempts to talk about sports in the Muscle Building Society never go down too well. I thought if there was a place to talk about sports, whether competitive or casual, we could encourage a few new members into the forum.
So talk about what you've done recently, maybe you've got questions, just want to chat about what's happening in the world, what your future plans are e.t.c.
I guess the best place to start would be mentioning any sports you play, what sort of level e.t.c. Maybe if you've done anything recently (I know I've not done a lot over the holidays!)?
I play a lot of football, for my local team at home in an amateur league and usually four or five teams a week five and seven-a-side, and I play Rugby League for the University of Nottingham in the first team. Hoping to get more into League when I finish uni, joining my local side who are in Conference 1. Might be a big ask.
I also obviously hit the gym, used to do some sprinting and jumping back in the day and have played a bit of cricket. -
Re: TSR Amateur Athletes Society
I play alot of tennis between the months of February and September - club matches and North-East cheshire tennis league matches. Otherwise, I just cycle to maintain my fitness, both outdoors on my road bike and indoors on my turbo - to get every angle covered so to speak. Looking forward to now getting back outdoors and putting in some mileage.
Goals this year are to put on some weight, to put on muscle and lose some of my little bits of chubbiness, mainly confined to my belly and upper body. I also want to add definition to my stomach, at least flatten it!, and need to strengthen this area for tennis as I pulled a muscle in this area during this last years tennis season - doing the plank soon sorted that out. Need to eat healthier and cut out chocolate and cakes and other crap. I know what needs to be done but it's the doing it that's proving to be the rocket science - the lack of discipline.
Have been struggling for motivation of late so regaining my motivation and fitness is a good place to start for me. -

I'm lazy cyclist who just got his ass back on the bike.

Enter a race or a tennis competition ? Not quite sure how tennis is structured, must be a wimbledon for noobs though?(Original post by white_haired_wizard)

No plans to take cycling seriously and enter any races. Tennis season doesn't feel that far away now, seeing as the league can start in the month of May and it'll need a good 2 months before then to get into shape and form for it. Sad as it sounds I just want the xmas and New Year season to finish and get back to normality - get back a normal routine and get back a good fitness regime.
My tennis league consists of playing 10 fixtures in the league, playing some in-house club tournaments and practice every Sunday and the odd practice session in a weekday evening. The tennis is all doubles. -

Enduro offroad motorbike racing, counts as a sport to me.
3 hours at a time of intense exercise. Hitting a race about once a month if i can .
Only started recently so am still a n00b but i'm improving.
About to run starting strength because i lack the general strength required to manhandle a 100kg motorbike around. Also got a race tomorrow lunchtime.
Do go cycling/running in spare time but only for general fitness. Not interested in racing my bike but may enter a 5k or something at some point... Not a competitive one but a charity one as my time is about 25 mins so not bad but nowhere near decent runners pace. -

Used to play rugby for school team, then got too lazy. Also used to play a lot of casual football, cant remember the last time I did that though. I still play cricket from time to time, but not much. Have always wanted to try some MMA but never got down to it. I.e. I am lazy

Re: TSR Amateur Athletes SocietyThere's MMA in the Bloomsbury but I've never been so I have no clue how good it is. There's also a BJJ club down at SOAS, which seems to be very good. Currently I'm trying to keep my 'non-injured' time as high as possible. So definitely no jits till I hit a 4 plate deadlift...(Original post by u4m1r)

Re: TSR Amateur Athletes Society
I don't want to say I 'play' rugby because I still haven't played a proper game but I think that will change when I go back for the term. Although I'm a bit worried about not being able to last for a whole game.
Does anyone know how I can improve my stamina and speed? I already do weights and steady state cardio but I'm thinking including 1 HIIT session should do it?
I'm also thinking of taking up boxing at some point in the future. -
Re: TSR Amateur Athletes Society
Used to play basketball before uni. Stopped playing (after realising I was too weak and **** to play it at uni level) and continued lifting for a few months (it's been about 3-4 or so now). Now that I've got a little bit newly aquired strength and power I want to gear it towards something competitive.
I'm looking at taking up basketball again, or doing some sort of athletics (400m/high jump/long jump whatever im good at). Im currently doing Muay Thai (if that counts)
Muay Thai at Astor College, do eeet.(Original post by u4m1r)

Re: TSR Amateur Athletes Society
I was meant to be playing 5's and 11's this season but I've missed all the matches up to now because of my stupid knee injury.
And to pound on my miseries, my mate pulled the 5's team out of the league because he was struggling to get a fifth player most of the time
FML.

Entering a 3 hour offroad race today at 12, This race has been postponed 3 times, first 5th dec, then 19th then 27th...
Hoping to just beat my brother that's entering the same race but he's on a better bike so i'll need my better fitness/skill to finish first...
UPDATE: Finished the race ahead of my brother. 6 laps to him not even managing to finish 1.
Overall i did badly because i was too cautious for the first 2 laps...
My lap times were like(minutes) 30,30,25,20,20,15. Could have done more if i'd have started with more bals but was trying to be nice and lead the n00by brother round...
Need to hit the gym more because picking the bike up(when i crash a lot) is like deadlifting 100kg repeatedly... Which really takes it out of you... -

I'd like to try out boxing one day.
I've been doing rugby training for the last few months and hope to continue it when I get to Spain and maybe play in some matches.
