The MUN Awards 2010 - The Ceremony

Happy New Year to you all! And welcome to the ceremony for the MUN Awards 2010!
The last year has been a pretty big one for the MUN. We've had 3 Secretary Generals, inaugurated the Deputy Secretary General and Attorney General positions, had a successful Hypothetical and welcomed a number of new members who have become significantly players.

Our first award is for the Off-Topic/Socialiser of the Year, the member with the best and most prolific banter in 2010.
There could be only one winner of this award. With us barely 7 months, this year's top socialiser has amassed more than 300 posts in the off-topic thread, a feat perhaps only matched by last year's recipient DayneD89!
So, the 2010 Off-Topic/Socialiser is..........

The next award is for the Comedian/Comedienne of the Year. Whilst a difficult category to vote in, this year a clear winner stuck out, someone who is always capable of entertaining us. The winner is:

As established members fade into the sunset, new members come in and make their own mark. And 2010 was a truly great year for new membership, with several newbies becoming fully fledged regulars. Mentions must go to the runners up. Texan88, who is now our France rep. And toronto353, now a regular who gave me a great race in the SG election. Whilst not nominated, SpiritedAway's contribution to OOC chat has been unrivaled.
But the winner, by a fair margin, has had a huge impact since joining (as recently as October!) and is now one of our most regular contributors in all areas!
The Newcomer of the Year 2010 is..........

Next it's the MUN Icon award, a sort of lifetime achievement accolade. And while I've been thinking of all the great things I could say about the 3 other nominees, I can't really congratulate myself :tongue:

I'm humbled that people nominated and voted for me. I'm honoured, and would like to say that the other nominees - gyyy2807, JakePearson and ukebert - are all equally worthy of the accolade.

Now, strip away the admin and the chat, and the essence of the MUN is debating. Which makes the Debater of the Year award very big indeed. This year saw an incredibly tight contest between four high quality debaters, but one member was a whisker ahead. This year's winner played a central role in the Iran HYP and is a prolific all-rounder.

And now to the main event! Member of the Year is reserved for the best of the best, and this year's winner richly deserves the accolade. He is a real veteran having joined nearly 2 years ago, and in 2010 became a P5 rep as well as Deputy Secretary General. He's also one of the nicest and most pleasant people I've come across on The Student Room.
Without further ado, the Model United Nations' Member of the Year 2010 is..........

For me, picking just one person has been very tough. There are countless members who deserve recognition for their efforts in 2010, and simply not enough awards to do so.

Congratulations to all the winners, and congrats to all of those who were nominated as well, because to be nominated itself is a privilage and a clear sign that you are doing well.

Darn, I think I must have missed this by about 5 mins :frown:

I thought it had been cancelled due to Student's New Year excesses :tongue:

Anyway, well done to everyone, I'll try and get round to repping people this week. I can't really say that everyone who won deserved it - I don't think I should have got all of those (comedian - :confused:
