Mitigating Circumstances - What happens next ?

My dad passed away in early December and as a result I have filed for mitigating circumstances at Manchester Uni. I have exams in Jan.

Does anybody know what will happens in terms of grades? Do they add a certain percentage onto my mark? Thanks

Hi Bigkev18,

Sorry to hear of your circumstances.

I think that mitigating circumstances differs for each school at the university. I'm in the School of Computer Science, and from what I've heard they only look at mitigating circumstances if you fail an exam. Usually they will give you a compensated pass to allow you to pass to the next year or gain the credits, but I think your original mark will still be included in your yearly averages.
