I'm working towards a squat jerk but the mobility is nowhere near what's needed

I've never thought about squat jerking before but I'm becoming curious about it now. Need to train some clean grip OHS :teeth:

My shoulders were so tight I could barely manage the bar! haha and I thought I had generally quite good shoulder mobility
tried to squat jerk on tuesday though (just the bar) and got on far better with it
    it's a tough movement
I mainly do the power jerk because I can't see to do the split jerk haha, can't get deep enough to catch on the split

Did some clean grip OHS with just the bar today. Wobbly as hell! One to work on, pretty fun though!

Decent session today. Not been this knackered after training in a while.

    Clean & Jerk
Wasn't happy with Tuesday's C&J workout so I repeated it.

    25 x 2
    30 x 2
    37.5 x 2
    42.5 x 2
    45 x 2
    50 x 2
    50 x 2
    52.5 x 1 (power clean)
    52.5 x 1
    52.5 x 1 (power clean)
    52.5 x 1 (power clean)

Trolling myself with the power cleans there. Got a good cue for jerks today - push the bar up and back. Much, much better than Tuesday.

    Snatch Pulls
Should really call these high pulls cos it's a low % and I generally pull them to eye level.

    35 x 3 (power snatch)
    37.5 x 3 (power snatch)
    42.5 x 3
    45 x 3
    45 x 3
    47.5 x 3
    50 x 3

    Front Squat
    40 x 3
    50 x 3
    55 x 3
    60 x 3
    65 x 3
    70 x 3 PB

Not much, really. It's just a bit annoying when I'm not actually meaning to do them!

    Re: Becca's Lifting Blog
Good session tonight, mentally speaking. Was pretty tired after yesterday still plus been moving furniture and boxes all day at work, but I pushed through.

    Snatch
    25 x 2
    32.5 x 2
    35 x 2
    37.5 x f (too high lol), 2
    37.5 x 2
    40 x 2
    40 x 2
    42.5 x f,1
42.5 x 2 (second one was ugly, nearly lost forwards but got head through and managed to stand up)
    42.5 x f,1

Was supposed to do 2 doubles at 42.5 but I was lacking extension (despite firing myself up and only having focus on extending!). However I told myself I was going to get 4 reps at 42.5 and I wasn't allowed to leave until I did, and I managed to make it. Pretty happy with that. One of my coach has a favourite saying "you decide over the bar" (badly translated!) and I did that today.

    Clean pulls
    42.5 x 3 (power clean)
    49 x 3
    51 x 2
    51 x 2
    54 x 2
    54 x 2
    57.5 x 2

    Kettlebell Swings
    12kg

    32
    32
    32

Getting close to 100 reps total . Gonna see how many I can get consecutively at some point.

Later will do week 2, day 1 of the 100 pushups challenge.

    Re: Becca's Lifting Blog
Odd, but good (in the end) session today.
Want to prefix it by saying I've been feeling pretty run down the past 2 days - woken up with a sore throat and blocked sinuses the last couple of days.

    Squat
    40 x 5
    50 x 4
    60 x 3
    70 x 2
    80 x 1

-Went to get the weightlifting belt out of the cupboard and it was gone!! ARGH! Someone has stolen it So I put my bf's powerlifting belt on but it was waaay to big. Wore it like that and did:

    90 x 1

Then we got a key and spent ages adjusting the belt, put it on and I could still fit my hand down the front.

    97.5 x 1 (easy)

Then adjusted it again (all of these adjustments took over 5 minutes and were really annoying). It was still nowhere near as tight as I normally get the weightlifting belt.

    105 x f :nn: Got stuck.

    Cleared my head.

    105 x 1 PB yay.

I think I would have nailed it first time if I'd been feeling well, had my normal belt and hadn't had to faff about with the other one. Still happy though! :yeah:

    Kettlebell Swings
    12kg

    33
    33
    34

100 total! Don't really know what to do next...go for 200 total?

nice squating, shame that someone nicked the weightlifting belt.

Was it your personal one that has been nicked, or a communal one that everyone can use?

It's a communal one that belongs to our club along with all our bars and plates and the squat rack. Disadvantage of sharing a locale with people not in the club. Gonna do some investigations and narrow down the suspects - everyone who trains there has to sign into a book at reception, so I should be able to find them and ask if they plan on returning it :holmes:

^still laughing at that gif lol

Very nice squats indeed, especially with feeling crappy/using a different belt!

With the kb swings, not much use going higher overall, either go heavier or do longer sets. You could also try out singlehanded swings (I've found them to be a nice challenge for trunk stability), or ones where you switch it from hand to hand when it's at the front horizontally.

Yeah think I'll go heavier! There are 2 more kettlebells at the gym, one is 16kg I think and the other one is even heavier so I can progress on those.

Thanks for all the nice posts guys

I have a stinking cold, last day of term today so I couldn't stay home, but now I'm way to blergh to train. Gonna rest up, drink lemsip, get lots of sleep and hopefully do an ok session tomorrow.

    Awesome progress, as expected

Shame you feel a bit ****, but the sooner the rest the sooner you'll be raring to get back on it Hope you feel better soon.

How you finding kettlebells? Any noticeable differences? My Tuesday evenings have freed up; perhaps I'll use the Kettlercise class nearby to get in some extra work during the week.
