SSH Ubuntu

Hey guys.

Got SSH installed on my Ubuntu operating system. I also have Putty, to connect to it on a Windows environment.

Was just asking, heard about all this static IP, DynDNS and Port Forwarding which I've tried before but failed.

I was asking, I want to use my SSH internet connection from my PC at home using Putty in college. How can I make Ubuntu's IP static..and update all the time automatically when the IP lease expires.

Having loads of problems with DynDNS. Hopefully someone can take me step by step through it?

You can set up a DHCP reservation on your router and forward port 22 for that IP.

As for DynDNS why can't you just use your normal IP address?

I have a BTHomeHub and its proven nightmare to forward anything.

I have forwarded SSH to my router..from what I know and put my DynDNS details in my router. Not sure what to do now.

Have you actually managed to connect through SSH within your LAN?

For portforwarding the first google result from searching "BT homehub SSH" gave these pretty clear instructions... http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/BT/BTHomeHub/SSH.htm

Sorry, was going to update.

Yeah, checked that out and did all that before. Forwarded SSH. and my DynDNS details are in. Yeah can do it by LAN. Just trying to get my DynDNS domain sorted..proving difficult. Keeps redirecting to my router homepage.

You are linking it to your external IP address right? and not 192.168.0.1 or whatever your router's IP is because thats what it sounds like you've done.

Nope. I installed webmin and it works with the internal ip: http://192.168.206.131:10000/

It works when I do that. But when I try and user my domain, In my DynDNS account, It has my internal IP listed underneath, so it works.

But my domain just goes to my router homepage.

Well I'm not sure then sorry never really used DynDNS I would just use my external IP address though rather than bothering with it.
