Hi, I got rejected by Cambridge pre-interview for English (which I am yet to get feedback on) but I'm guessing it's because of my AS grades. I had panic attacks in my exams despite revising really well sadly so I got BBBC but I didn't apply for CSAS as it is my fault at the end. My teachers still know my potential despite this luckily and I'm predicted A*AA.

I also got rejected from UCL, but I do have an offer from UEA which is AAB. I'm yet to hear for Nottingham which are also AAB and I also applied there again for Law (due to parents already paid for the LNAT so I didn't want to waste their money)and I haven't heard anything yet.

I know if I just relax, I could get hopefully A*A*A if I work extremely hard. If I do get those grades though, should I reapply as I may have another chance? Or should I just go to UEA/Nottingham (if they give me an offer)? I do understand that it's not the be all/ end all, but I loved it so much when I visited there (I did like Nottingham alot when I saw it and I have a visit day for UEA in March so yet to see that). I just wished I got interviewed and then I wouldn't have really cared if I got an offer or not...but it makes me wonder if I would have...

    Thanks .
If I were in your position and you achieved an offer from Notts, I would go there and then go for postgrad at Cambridge; personally.

You applied for a course for the sake of... was it £50 for the LNAT? You realise the course will cost you £9000, right?

Anyway, it depends how bothered you are, really. We can't tell you.
Also, you don't know if you have other offers yet, so there's no point thinking about it when you might be forced into a gap year anyway.

It was parents initally wanting/forcing me to do law at uni so they paid for the test but after ages of explaining to them, they allowed to me to do English eventually but I did the test and applied as it would be a waste of money to not apply.

I do realise that...I'm just trying to be more optimistic than pessimistic about everything.

If they give me an offer (hopefully), I think it may come to that.

Cambridge interview 90% of applicants and the fact that you were rejected pre-interview doesn't bode well. If you have panic attacks, the pressure at Cambridge is probably not going to suit you anyway. That, coupled with the extra debt even if you did manage to get in, would suggest that you'd be a lot better off at Nottingham or UEA. If you get offers and visit them, you'll probably find that you love them too.

I thought you needed A grades at AS Level in order to get A* at A2?

Hopefully I will reapply too...if my results are good in summer. Also, I asked my teacher if he could get the feedback today.

mainly bad. it started off with saying that they were very impressed with my determination but that they felt i won't be able to cope with undergraduate study (this bit i strongly disagree with). it also said i gave mainly generalized answers to questions (this bit i kind of agree with and something i can improve if i decide to apply again).

Apparently the percentage of those applying post a-level who get an offer is *less* than the usual pre a-level application.

But all the same, i'll share my story: I applied last year and got pooled then rejected, but I reapplied this year while in my first term of my first year at my firm. Not many people do this but I didn't want to take a gap year in case I got rejected and had to spend the rest of the year lazing around :/ It was hectic, sure, but i got an offer!

Bear in mind, Cambridge doesn't allow you to apply to the same college, and they also don't let you apply for the same subject you're currently studying at another university. So I applied for another subject this year, and another college Their offer is for me to get a 2:1 in my first year at my current uni, which makes me happy cause I feel little special now, haha
Are you joining Cambridge as a first year or second year student?
If someone studied for one year at somewhere else (gap year) and then apply to Cambridge to study beginning from the first year, is the person considered a transfer student?

    I just read this http://www.cam.ac.uk/admissions/unde...herroutes.html
Isn't applying while attending another UK uni quite frowned upon? Did you have really great recommendations from your tutor?

For those reapplying while at uni:

I want to study something similar at Cambridge, so emailed all the colleges I liked the look of to see if they would allow this. So far the majority have said no, one said they'd be hesitant unless I got a great reference from my current tutor and one said it's fine, as long as they receive a letter acknowledging I'll be dropping out if I get a place at Cam

You said you want to study a similar subject. Could you specify the subject at your current uni and the Cambridge Course you want to apply for? Also, are you attending a UK Uni? Could you please also tell, which college allowed you to apply to them?

I'll be studying psychology in 2011, and applying for PPS in 2012.

Downing were the most welcoming and Johns were hesitant, waiting on a few others to get back to me.

I am a home student yes, but they said that their policy does not apply to internationals

Can't you just not mention that you are already studying at uni? They will assume a gap year?

Theoretically you could, but if they find out you've lied to them after they've given you an offer they can take that offer away from you. So it's not advisable to try to find a loophole, and just be upfront about your plans.

Don't mean to be harsh, but if they feel you can't cope with undergraduate study this year, then they're not likely to change their minds next year. The bit about being impressed with your determination doesn't mean anything. They want really strong candidates, with academic A levels and if you didn't get in this year, think about whether it's worth a year out and extra debt.

I applied last year and was pooled and then rejected.. I didn't even know about feedback until much later so never requested it, but applied this year Same Course, Same College, and got an offer.
Although fewer people apply post A having grades in hand must give you advantage over a conditional candidate if everything else was the same (ie interview and ps strength)
I actually think applying to the same college helped, I did have one of the same interviewers, and knew he was quite harsh, so I was prepared while others panicked.
A gap year is a very good idea if you are young, universities are very weary of anyone starting under 18 for pastoral reasons, and also leaves much more time for reading independent study etc than the full school timetable most cam hopefuls have!
