Also, after lifting 210kg the other say I had to get a picture as it looked ridiculously heavy.

How much easier is deadlifting with the trap bar as you seem to be lifting a **** load more this way.

    A lot easier.

This was raised as well though. Reckon I could pull 190/195 from the floor though. My actual deadlift technique is terrible.

    WEnt gym.

    Clean &Press
    20*7,
    40*4
    50* loads
    40* loads

Was training with this other guy who was trying to teach me how to actually clean and catch in rack position(hurts front of shoulders) and press from the rack position as well instead of just pressing from basically holding it,

    Trap bar deads
    Up to 140kg*3,3,2,1

Terrible but not deadlifted in ages and not done Trap bar in even longer iirc.

    Sled Drags
Sled+70kg did the double widths 3 times but as it's rained lately it was easier than last time even with the more weight. For some reason i had grip but the sled flowed easily...

All in all, light session but worked on technique etc so better than nothing.
Did starting strength make u look visibly stronger, and how many weeks did it take to see an improvement in physique? 12?

Not really, think i still look the same as i did when i started. I find it hard to see changes in myself.

I probably have changed but very gradually overtime.

kk, but im taking it u were never skinny - I am and just need to bulk up a little bit, as in no longer be skinny - would starting strength do this sufficiently, or should I look at a hypertrophy orientated program?

    Don't do SS for mass.

Do a hypertrophy program. Starting Strength is great if you want massive quads and very little else to show for it.

I was very skinny when i started. Still look skinny (imo).

SS only gives you quads, nothing else really.

Go for a bodybuilding program is thats what you want.

the thing is I want both-I don't need to be massive, but pretty big as I'll need momentum for rugby, but obviously strength is a must also. Do you have any programs that will do a bit of both (reasonable strength and reasonable hypertrophy)?
    cheers

SS will give you reasonable strength and hypertrophy tbh.

Although the hypertrophy will only come if you gain weight and do some more upper body volume than the bare minimum, such as adding in weighted chins / dips.

    Very true.

There's a routine on bb.com which is like Babylover or might be Babyslayers modified SS which I like.

    Its something like;

    Workout A:
    Front squat
    Bench
    Deadlift
    (Dips)
    (A bicep exercise)
    (Rear delt flies)

    Workout B:
    Back squat
    OHP
    Row
    (Chins)
    (A tricep exercise)
    (Side raises)

The stuff in brackets should only be done if you're feeling good and in a higher rep range. Also repeat the workouts as often as possible rather than 3 times a week.

ss is atrocious for dem pecs, and upperbody in general

this is coming from someone who gained 20kg bw on the programme, i have a decent back from doing weighed chins/pull downs, back thickness is pretty awful, arms are tiny and chest is small.

atm i generally train pl style for lwoerbody lifts and more like a bodybuilder with upperbody lifts

I know this is going to just be the battle of anecdotal evidence but I feel like I put on quite a a lot of mass on my chest / shoulders doing SS style programming, maybe it's just down to differing genetics though.

My theory is if you have long arms then lockout becomes the problem with pressing movements, and hence chest/shoulders get under worked. Until your triceps strengthen up significantly pressing movements will just work your triceps.

In that case it's important you do some flies/raises to work the under worked chest/shoulders.

i have really long arms and have no problems at lock out but off the chest, i always used to bash flies and claim their useless, but you know what for actually chest size/growth they are excellent,

As a general rule: the longer your limbs are, the more isolation work you should do.
