it's not about things revolving around me, it's simply that i am not gonna use dirty bathrooms. it's disgusting and i don't know with who i'll end up with as sharers. like you can be lucky and have normal people, or you can have gross people. Also my dad does have credibility as a doctor, otherwise he wouldn't be where he is today. he just cares about his daughter...

The vast majority of shared bathrooms are cleaned every day. If you want to experience real lack of hygiene, go to a third world country. You sound as though you should be living in a bubble.

No credible doctor would lie about a condition. Good luck with your attempt at a scam!

You need to man up. There are worse things in life than sharing a bathroom. Uni accommodation bathrooms aren't nearly as bad as you imagine. If you ask anyone who shares, 9/10 of them will probably tell you that there are little to no problems with sharing. Besides, you're going to have to share a kitchen anyway, and they can be FAR more disgusting than bathrooms.

i don't really know how to cook, so i am not planning on using the kitchen. i don't really care if people think i am living in a bubble or something. It's just I am used to certain things and i need my own space, like I was actually planning to get an apartment, but because I am not 18 next year I going to wait until I am over age. Believe me, if you never shared bathrooms, the idea can be really freaky. Also I can't just leave my toiletries/make up lying around cos they would get stolen.

... You're going to need to use a kitchen at some point. Where are you going to keep your food? In your room? You don't leave your things in the bathroom, you keep them in a washbag in your room and then take them with you when you're using the bathroom.

the places I have looked at all have fridges in the rooms. i don't know I just think it is so weird for it being so hard to get an ensuite room. like if most people want one, just make more. I really hope I am going to get one because I can't imagine not having one.

@vitamin d: are you sharing with guys or girls?

I'm applying for 2011 entry so I'm not sharing with anyone yet. That's really weird that they have fridges in the room. Would have thought it counted as a fire hazard or something.

To be honest, it sounds to me like you've already made up your own mind.

Apply for en-suite EARLY and hope you get it!

Universities would rather spend money on academic research and resources than converting already built halls into en suites, which would mean completely changing the layout and significantly reducing the number of rooms there. The reason why brand new buildings in richer universities are generally all en suite is because a) they can afford it and b) they factored it into the original layout, so it wasn't as difficult.

but if they would change the rooms they would be able to charge more which would give them continuously more cash flow to invest in academic research and resources.

No, they wouldn't. Because the idea of university accommodation is that it's accessible to all, so they couldn't get away with charging that much more. Besides, why would, say, Oxford University want to knock down its grade I and II listed buildings, which students are perfectly happy with at the moment, so a few children who'd always had their own bathroom would be satisfied?

but it's not those few children that always had their own bathroom. everyone wants their own bathroom, because sharing with like 10 more people is ****ing gross. like what if they don't clean the toilet after using it? or leave their pubes all over the tub? would you always pee in a crouching position or clean the toilet an hour before you use it? or desinfect the shower before using it? you would probably spend more money on cleaning products, than those 10 quid that the ensuite room is more expensive. that's just my opinion, and that is why I am going to get an ensuite, because you never know who you end up with.

I really think you need to pull yourself together. The majority of families share a toilet and don't clean it after each person uses it. It's been proven that children who are exposed to germs more have better immune systems and so can ward off diseases more easily. Not every bathroom is shared between 11 people - often it's four or five. I hope you don't demand your own toilet cubicle at school, or in the workplace. It's about a thousand pounds more expensive for some ensuite rooms, not £10. You need to do your research properly. I hope you don't get an ensuite room, so you can see what it's like to be an ordinary person.

maybe the majority of families don't because they don't act like pigs, but i have heard some pretty nasty stories about sharing. it's about 10 pounds a week, and my parents are paying for my accommodation, so i seriously couldn't care less. And it's not about some germs, it's about pee all over the seat or puke everywhere. I really hope that you have to share a bathroom with disgusting people and then if you complain that you can't even shower because it is so dirty, that people will tell you to man up and pull yourself together, because the pubes and the mud at the bottom of the shower aren't soo bad.

Good luck with making friends at university. You think that the average student pees and pukes all over the toilet seat? LOL.

oh believe me I am great at making friends, whenever I am somewhere new, at the end of the week I would have already found people to party with ;-)

no, i am not saying all are pigs, but some obviously are (all the bad stories i've heard) and i don't want there to be even the slightest chance of having to share with someone who doesn't know the basic hygiene rules. If you don't mind ending up sharing with some pigs, then that's fine with me. But don't judge me, just because I don't want to.

i am under age, does that count as a special reason?
No. Why would it? Its not like you are 10 and halls are packed full of sex offenders.
Also what do you mean by under age? I doubt you are going to be any younger than 17 when you start

Daughter...so you are a girl...you do realise that the vast vast majority of shared bathroom horror stories, aside from being majorly exagerated to scare poor ickle freshers, are about boys bathrooms.
Yes there are girl slobs too but the chances that you'd be landed with even one female slob (let alone one bad enough to notice) to share with are tiny compared with if you were a guy.
Add in that bathrooms are generally cleaned daily by proffessional cleaners...where's the risk? Especially as you don't strike me as the type of girl who will be up at the crack of dawn before the cleaners arrive.

    Toiletries.
When in the bathroom you aren't going to be out of sight of your toiletries and when you aren't in the bathroom you keep them in you nice secure locked room...where's the problem? Also are we talking the kind of shared bathroom where you share with like 3-7 people or where you share with a huge long corridor of people?
