I wouldn't say it's a superpower, it's up there, but, China, USA, Germany and France outweigh us!
France and Germany? Why do you think that?

Britain is long gone. I don't know what we have now, but it's not a Britain to be proud of. This is supposed to be Great Britain but it's far from great and is barely British. It is an absolute disgrace and so is every member of parliament - especially David Cameron and every Labour MP.

no longer a super power after WW II but still a leading nation I would say. The USA is the dominant international force.

I would rank it that way: 1. USA, 2. China, 3. GB, France, 4. Germany
You rank GB ahead of France and Germany (not to mention other countries such as Japan etc)? Are you high 'on' something?

Germany for example has much greater clout and influence in the world than GB (though GB is equal or there abouts to France I'd say) - Germany is the dominant force in the EU.

Britain doesn't need do be a superpower in order to be successful, or a good quality of life. Scandanavia, Swizerland, Australia, New Zealand are good examples of non-super powers with good life quality.

On the other hand India despite being a superpower is a long way off from being successful in terms of quality of living.

No, we haven't been for a while.

Saying that Germany and France are above us is a bit silly. We still maintain the hub of finance (London) which isn't going to shift any time soon, our currency is strong, we have brilliant diplomats and diplomatic relations, a powerful cutting edge (but dwindling) military with some of the best training in the world, maintain a very strong academic power (with number 1 in the world) etc etc

We have no chance of surpassing China or the USA militarily or financialy, but we do remain a powerful nation and ally.

It is the mindset of us being a world player that is going to damage us in the future.

With the Chinese economy taking off, the Indians taking most of our jobs, the Yanks buying our football club and not to mention, the middle east people buying up all london's prime property with cash, things are bring taken off from the Brits bit by bit.

And guess what the danger is? Most of us don't even realize this is happening.

What will happen in 50 years time?
    we're more of a superpower's sidekick now

France is a wanna-be power. they always try to copy things in order to keep their status in the EU but the inhabitants in the suburbs burn cars and starting riots. I rate GB ahead of Germany because I am in favour of the UK. :-) They were a superpower in history, especially colonial history and it should not be forgotten I think. They created the base for the USA as a superpower. The USA was a former colony of the British Empire and not that big at all. The Empire ruled the world for 2 centuries...

Japan, well I would rank them behind EU power states because they are not as big as china in trading and money making etc. they are the second big asian nation I would say. I am not asian. Of course I am in favour of the EU states.

The Mongols conquered half the world but they aren't exactly a modern superpower nor would I rate them above Germany

Its still one of the most powerful countries in the world but no, its no longer a Super Power. America is the worlds super power with China on the rise.
With the air force and military being very sophisticate, China will overcome USA very soon.I just read an article about the J-20 stealth fighter. That thing has huge thrust capacity!

In terms of Economy, not really.
However, we still have many industries that (whilst obviously not on par with countries like China, Russia and America) still produce valuable items on the World's civilian and military markets.
Also, our Armed Forces are in no way "weak". Going by the standard of our training, the general skill of our personal, our military-machines and equipment, we're right up there too.

Though, like other's are saying. Britain, to most, now is regarded as "America's lap-dog". Which is probably true.

It will take many many many years for China to get ahead or even level with the USA in terms of weapons technology.

Britain has never been a superpower since WW2, just a developed country that is now falling back to 3rd world standards in many areas no thanks to the lower classes and chavs.

As for it being a superpower in future? Nope, the only real possibility of a superpower would be China, improving economic standards, ever improving R&D (though it usually means receive & duplicate) .... militarily there is not a chance in the world HM's Forces stand a chance against China.

India is unlikely to be a superpower. They have too many social issues like their caste and corruption that would drag the country down. It would be one big Italy or Spain while China becomes a Germany or possibly a USA.
I don't think you've (or I) even got a vague idea what a 3rd world standard is, and certainly not getting near that.

but the others points are feasible.

let´s go back to the Roman Empire...... lol. the Mongols??? funny.

I would always rank GB above Germany because I love it. many people tel me that I would be perfect for the BNP, even a Scottish prof at university recommended a career in the BNP after she has read my 18 pages term paper on the English reign over Ireland. My thesis was: blessing or curse.

China exports more goods than Germany but Germany gets better prices for their goods. Even people in Arabian states love German cars. I prefer a good Bently of course. I was born in the wrong nation.

We have a sprawling bureaucracy and we are a failed welfare state. Need to overhaul local government much further than is being done now. That should let us have a stronger and more innovative economy to become more influential world wide.

I'm surprised Russia came 3rd. It's hardly a superpower anymore.
