Hi, dunno if anybody here will be able to help but here goes:
I'm currently in my final year of a degree (geography if anybody really cares) and am thinking about becoming an officer in the RAF (if I get in). I've got the bits you can order off the internet, so I know the next step should be visiting my AFCO. Looking at the list above, it says that my nearest one is in Aber, however when I looked on the RAF website there is no mention of one there, and a postcode search puts my nearest one as Shrewsbury. I'm guessing that is because it's a TA place, and thus only deals with the Army? Otherwise I'll wait till I'm next home for the w/end and visit Preston.

I was thinking about staying on at uni for an extra year and doing a masters, and in some ways I still want to, so would you suggest I stay (I would use the extra year to get fitter and build up various skills), especially after having read some of the threads in here (very useful BTW, thanks guys) I've noticed it mentionned that Intelligence Officer is closed until 2007, one of the branches I'm interested in.

I've heard of someone who went to OASC with a degree, masters and phd. She was an outstanding candidate and they didn't accept her on the grounds that she might not be totally commited and will drop out to pursue a career relating to her qualifications instead. (was it you who told me this Que?) (please wait for this to be backed up before taking it as hard fact - but it does illustrate a point)

You will need to totally justify your reason for doing a masters - a degree benefits you in terms of extra pay and life exprience, a masters... not so much.

I personally feel that if you do want to take a year out to get fit, your time would be best spent getting a full/part time job, doing volunteer work - preferably with the ATC or a charity etc, doing some adventurous activities and generally preparing for OASC. Hope this info is useful - it's all based on advice from my AFCO and my feedback at OASC.

Best thing, like you said is go to the AFCO - the CO's been through it and will probably have seen OASC from the other side as well!

Re the Preston one, it's RAF and Navy only, with Army not that far away on the other side of the road. Could be the other way round mind, but they're both on Fishergate, but as I don't live there I'm not at all familiar with what number's what!

If you are at Uni in Aber, why don't you go through the Uni Liaison Officer? It must have changed from the plonker that was there when I applied from Aber 18 years ago! There is a regional guy, does all the Welsh Uni/colleges and he is all swept up for officer entry info - sorry, can't recall exactly how to contact him, but think of it as an initiative exercise - know someone in the UAS perhaps?
