i've collected some of the different ways in which universities pose the question for personal statement or statement of purpose...hope propective aplications find this helpful..

1. LSE

All applicants - please upload a personal statement that describes your special academic interests and your purpose and objectives in undertaking graduate study. If you are applying for a Master's or diploma programme this is your opportunity to introduce yourself to the selectors. Please describe your academic background, strengths/interests, ambitions/research interests. If your chosen programme has more than one stream (e.g. MSc Social Research Methods) you should indicate which stream you are interested in following. 2. OX -SBS - MFE

Main responsibilities: Please provide a description of your job to include the nature of work undertaken, your responsibilities, size of budget and the number of employees under your supervision, details of any clients and/or products and results attained describe your hobbies interests etc, clubs associations I am currently a part off.
For MFE applicants
How do you hope to see your career developing over the next five years? How will the MSc in Financial Economics assist you in the development of these ambitions? (maximum 1000 words)

Please give further information in support of your application including the reasons for your choice of Programme, what you feel you will contribute and your general interests. (Please continue on an extra sheet where required.)


5. Imperial

Personal statement this section is an important part of the application and you must respond to each part. Expand on a separate sheet if required. please describe: (i) your reason for choosing this programme (ii) your current career thinking and objectives and describe how the programme will support these (iii) your mathematics education (iv) positions of responsibility you have held and how these have helped any subsequent endeavors (v) achievements in your life of which you are most proud and what you have learnt from these (vi) for msc finance applicants only, please list 5 topics with which you are familiar in (a) mathematics (b) probability theory (c) econometrics (d) computer packages & languages. Give an example of why each topic is useful. msc finance applicants should also list any academic courses taken and results achieved which are not included on their academic transcript.

6. Manchester

Please add any other information relevant to your application, eg. why you want to undertake this programme or research, details on your future career plans.



7. Bristol

Please write here any information which you would like considered in support of your application. For example, what do you hope to achieve by taking the programme, what effect might it have on your job aspirations, what work experience and skills have you
acquired which are related to your programme of study? Continue on a separate sheet if necessary.


8. Cranfield

Please outline your career aspirations and how this degree programme will help you to achieve them. (Your application will not be considered if this section has not been completed.)



9. Nottingham

All applicants: Please use this space to summarise your academic interests and your reasons for choosing your intended course of study.
Research Degree applicants: Please provide a brief outline of your proposed research topic or interests. If you have a detailed research proposal this may be attached. You should check the relevant School web site (http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/schools.phtml) regarding any specific guidelines on submitting your proposal.
By preference please supply your personal statement by writing or pasting it into the text field below.
Alternatively you may construct your personal statement as a pure text document by using a plain text editor, such as Notepad and upload it using the file upload screen. You must not use a word processor, such as Word (even if you then rename the file extension to .TXT). If you do so, or if you include any control or special characters in your document, then we will be unable to process your application.
