The most underrated school in the UK?
I was wondering if the title was true.
These are the observations I have made (which could be wrong of course):
1. Not too many people have heard of it. Internationally, even less.
2. CASS ranks extremely good in rankings.
3. I have talked to people who got into KCL or UCL but did not make it into City!
4. I personally don't know much about City/Cass, that's why i'm curious. How come people don't regard it as good as any other top London uni when it ranks above all of them? -
Re: The most underrated school in the UK?
I have an offer from City for Law and am not even remotely considering accepting it, primarily because of its distinct lack of a reputation comparable with institutions of similar age.
Please show me where City University is "ranked above all" of the "top" London universities.
City is about 40th. -
Re: The most underrated school in the UK?Hold on, you opted for the University of KENT over Cass for Actuarial Science?!?(Original post by arabcnesbit)
Was going to study AS there but opted for Kent instead.
Has a good rep for the subjects It does but the other London uni's like lse imperial etc still have the prestige.
Just the way it is i'm afraid.
u mad??? -
Re: The most underrated school in the UK?Well, I forgot to mention that I was referring to business degrees (I don't know anything about law rankings) - especially to undergrad courses at Cass Business School.(Original post by Aspiringlawstudent)

...because on Cass website, it says:
Cass is ranked first in London and third in the UK for its undergraduate programmes in business, management and finance for the three years running (The Guardian University Guide 2008, 2009 and 2010), whilst the FT ranking of European Business Schools placed us third in the UK and fourteenth in Europe (December 2008).
This is why I was surprised no one knows about it. And sorry for not being clear, I'm talking about Cass. -
Re: The most underrated school in the UK?Well to cut a short story shorter I've been out of education for a while and Cass wanted me to do their foundation year while Kent let me straight on to their degree. Herriot watt wanted me to do their foundation year aswell.(Original post by Neville 'Facking' Bartos)

Most of the better uni's have rules about study within a certain time period so regardless of my old school grades they either wanted me to do a foundation year or their course didn't have all the exemptions.
Kent was the only course that ticked all the boxes for me.
You studying AS aswell? -
Re: The most underrated school in the UK?Oh righty, no I'm not studying AS, but I know quite a few people who are.(Original post by arabcnesbit)

Re: The most underrated school in the UK?
don´t know about City itself, but I am doing Banking and international finance at cass and it´s really good. And yes, it is underrated. However, people from banks say that their intake from Cass is higher than other schools (according to a hot shot trader from Morgan Stanley) so Cass is definitely getting better.

Re: The most underrated school in the UK?Because this new rep system makes it all too easy to neg rep people for practically nothing. Oh how I miss the good old rep system.(Original post by ksanyee)
I wonder why I got two negative reps for bringing up this topic.

Re: The most underrated school in the UK?
Well Cass is very good in their specialised masters degree in business studies.
Reason why you may not have heard of it can be because it sucks in other courses they offer.
Cass is the business school of City uni. and that City uni is not good but their business school, Cass, is. -
Re: The most underrated school in the UK?

Re: The most underrated school in the UK?
Cass itself is WORLD CLASS however most of the rest of City University London is not. On it's own Cass can rank well but if you aggregate it with all the departments (Arts, Sciences and whatever else..) it's ranking will get lower and lower wouldn't it? Also the person who picked Kent over Cass just because they have to do a Foundation year has made a mistake. The reason for it is because the Maths you have to do for Acturial Science is bloody hard and you have to be ready to deal with the workload cause it will hit you like a brick!

Re: The most underrated school in the UK?
I think its got to the point now where City is restraining Cass from getting any further recognition
the only ways forward IMO
1. City joins UoL
2. Cass gains independence
3. City University Board members pull their fingers out and start marketing City as the next LSE
