The Dark Knight Rises
Whether you think cinema died with Hitchcock or only got good once Michael Bay started blowing up helicopters, this is the place where moving pictures are discussed.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises: Bane and Catwoman Confirmed
Really did not want Bane to be in this, but I guess Nolan will make it work, he's done much more than enough for us to trust him by now.
Plus Tom Hardy's excellent.
Didn't want Catwoman either but I think I'd already resigned myself to accepting her presence. -

I'm assuming that they are the same sort of people who think that Batman is a new thing and the first Batman film released was Batman Begins

Re: The Dark Knight Rises: Bane and Catwoman ConfirmedYou've just reminded me, I know a bunch of people who never realised The Dark Knight was a sequel to Batman Begins, which they'd never even seen/heard of...(Original post by Phalanges)

I wonder whats going to happen in the ending. This is the last batman film that Nolan is going to direct and I hope they leave it as a trilogy rather than making endless sequels that ruin the trilogy
Could conceivably work Bane's breaking of Batman into it. It's what Bane's there for, and besides, it's Bale and Nolan's last Batman film. Pretty much anything up to killing Batman is fair game. -
Re: The Dark Knight Rises: Bane and Catwoman ConfirmedThats what is going to make it so good. This really could be a film where you will not see the end coming.(Original post by Christien)

Re: The Dark Knight Rises: Bane and Catwoman Confirmed
I was surprised with the choices but I have faith in Nolan.
And personally I don't think we will see Catwoman in the new Batman film at all. Anne Hathaway was announced to be Selina Kyle, not the Catwoman. So I don't think we will see black leather and a whip (thankfully). She may be corrupted in some way but she may never even be mentioned as Catwoman.
I think they chose Bane to be the new villian just so they can break Batman's back (like in the comics)
That's his purpose. And also old Batman films completely destroyed the original image of Bane - he's not some brainless killing machine, he's in fact a clever (but bloody strong) drug user.
Oh, and Tom Hardy's hot.

And Bane's a lot more than a drug user. -
Re: The Dark Knight Rises: Bane and Catwoman Confirmed
I assume it was announced as 'Selina Kyle' to obfuscate the fact it was Catwoman to the four or five people who don't know that already.

It would be a complete and utter waste if she was just 'Selina Kyle, Random Angry Whore', and I don't think Nolan's given to such anti-climaxes. -
Re: The Dark Knight Rises: Bane and Catwoman Confirmed(Original post by Phalanges)
I've done a bit of reading on the characters (since I know very little about everyone in Batman), and from what I can make out Bane only has a few interesting things about him, and the vast, vast majority of his character just wouldn't fit in Nolan's universe, where it seems the supernatural is a definite no-no (deciding against Poison Ivy in an earlier film, for example).
So I can only assume Nolan must have had a good reason to go against his rules when making Bane. And as Bane main claim to fame seems to be that he's the closest anyone's ever coming to killing the Bat, I guess that reason's going to big.
Nolan seems more interested in exploring how a vigilante would fit in a world as close to an approximation of our own as he can manage. And ultimately the vigilante will never live happily after. I think it would be a very fitting end to the saga if Batman were to die; no loose ends, no way WB can extend his trilogy, and it would be huge.
Or he might just come close to killing him before Batman recovers and takes him down. I know which version WB would be more happy with, but I also know which one I'd prefer.
Having Batman die all HERO!!1112 would be awesome. I don't see the whole back breaking/recovery/Azrael taking over **** working in the space of one film. -
Re: The Dark Knight Rises: Bane and Catwoman ConfirmedI just can't see the whole recovery arc fitting into the timeframe of the movie, given that some of the time already has to go through the whole exclusion/redemption arc (and these aren't the sort of stories that can run concurrently).(Original post by concubine)

The Dark Knight Rises: Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Alberto Falcone
Confirmed by Variety
Not too sure about the character, but damn I'm glad Joseph's in it.
Should hopefully add a bit of backstory to the Falcone family.
