accommodation

i'm going to uni in two years and i just realised i know nothing about how the accommodation system works. So generally, do people stay at home, live on campus or have their own place?
If you live on campus, what is it like generally? do you have to share rooms, bathrooms etc? how does the payment system work?

You usually stay in halls of residence in the first year of uni, unless you live quite close to the uni itself and stay at home. Then most live out in the later years in a shared house with your uni friends. But this depends on where you study. For example, I stay in halls for all three years because there is enough accomodation for everyone.
Most rooms are single rooms, some with basins only and some have en-suite bathrooms.
Each campus has a different atmosphere and really depends on where you go.
I don't know about other unis but the payment system at Oxford is via direct debit or cheque.

Completely dependant on the university - they have all different systems. But the guy above me has it pretty much :smile:
