You're right... The problem with this ending is that you have to make stuff up for it to make sense. In my head the odds were so against them the best thing they could do was get out of there to survive, to regroup, to help others or just to live. Which fits with the personalities we've seen. We saw every fleet being ripped apart by Reapers, everyone on Earth was dead, they thought Shepard was killed by the Reaper along with the rest of the team. To have stayed would be useless. To escape would have had some purpose. I like to call it a retreat rather than desertion

I think it all depends on how you RP your Shep and crew. In person I'm a believer in "the greater good" so that transfers over to ME - I always played it like my crew and Shep would sacrifice whatever was necessary to ensure the survival of the galaxy. If that meant flying head-first into a Reaper, well, they'd damn well do it

In essence it just boils down to my general lack of satisfaction with the ending - with my EMS not seeming to make much difference (I had an effective EMS of over 7k) to the way anything was playing out. I had expected to see Joker pew-pewing crap all over the place.. But instead he left me all arone and took my BFF Garrus with him.

    Couple things:

    Spoiler:
    Show
I didn't really like the lack of impact certain things had. Such as:
    - Legion's existence generally. Activating/not activating him make very little difference in the grand scheme.
    - Saving/destroying the collector base. I saved it and I have no idea if it changed anything, I certainly didn't see it.
    - Saving/destroying the Rachni queen (same as Legion).
    - Killing Wrex (or not).

Now I can understand that with the possibility of character death in ME2 the positions of these characters would need to be filled by others in the game. However it seems odd to just use a different skin and different voice actor (with same/very similar dialogue) instead of adding something extra for those that performed well in previous games.

I was looking forward to having the Rachni fight along side me, but whatever.

Question time! It's all hypothetical so not really spoiler-y..

Ok, let's pretend that this scene had actually been kept in the game:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3PQT4c_r7Q

Who would you have taken on the final mission if you knew they were definitely going to die?

Personally.. Liara and Vega (or Ashley if I hadn't killed her repeatedly already).

Liara just annoyed the **** out of me with her stalkery infatuation with my FemShep. No, I don't want to bang you, I don't even really want to be your friend. I wasn't nice to you in ME1 but you still obsessed over me. Please stop creeping around my quarters, you darn blueberry.

Vega just because he was new. I did actually like him as a character but didn't really have long enough with his character to form an attachment to him. So he draws the short straw because I wouldn't want anyone else to die.

Ashley because she was a bitch without any good reason to be in ME1 (daddy issues, waah, BioWare please get new female character tropes because giving all of your females parental problems to explain a bad attitude is lame).

OOF i love my kinky blue alien so I couldnt take liara, Couldnt take the Prothean either because he is such a cultural treasure. He could Explain so many technologies even if he didnt know how they worked, just to put scientists on the right lines. I liked tali as well, so I would prob take vega (even though he is a don as you mentioned) and the robot EDI (surely they could just back her memory up?

Oh sh-- I forgot about EDI. EDI over Vega then. Essentially, she is a computer, and I'd rather sacrifice a computer than a person..

Fair point. Also, I thought she was still "in" the Normandy as it were.. Just giving herself a body for the crew to interact with.

I shot the **** out of that robot body and it didn't even get scratched, anyway. She'd probably survive like something out of the Terminator movies.

shes not a computer she is artificial life every bit as much alive as you and me and is sure as hell no different from a person made in a test tube the fact that she has technological factors is a moot point

It wouldn't have been possible, but Ashley & Kaiden. They were both annoying characters. If I can only choose one of them Ashley & James. I don't dislike James, but he's drawn the short straw. He had less of a personality than the other characters.

Yeah.. No. Gonna assume you're trolling because it'll hurt my faith in humanity to believe that there are people out there dumb enough to think that humans are somehow "made" in test tubes.

I didn't mind Kaidan too much though I did want to punch him in ME2 and in 3 when he kept whining at me on Mars. I guess he's just a bit of a wet (needs more Garrus).

    Re: Mass Effect Society
well me and a friend was arguing about the ending
    Spoiler:
    Show
(he believes the indoctrination theory and believes its a good ending)

he said he'd like to see me write better ending/s

so i said ok, stating id also make choices we made during this and previous games matter as-well so far i have these and would like to know what people think of them (the priorities are because a) there will be more and obviously it is possible to get achieve more than one set of criteria so it would be to determine which the game accepts in those cases.

(i am ignoring the existence of the god child in all my endings)

    An illusive redemption-priority one

If the reaper tech was handed over to the illusive man at the end of mass effect 2, the illusive man no longer sees you as a tool but as a true ally. This causes him to listen more closely to your words of disapproval to his plan to control the reapers plantings seeds of doubt in his mind which grow with every encounter. Eventually these doubts having grown the illusive man decides that this is his chance to redeem himself and prove that putting humanity first does not have to mean destroying the other races
Grabbing shepherd from the catalyst ad taking his place he looks at shepherd the pain clear In his eyes as he is being ripped apart ‘universe needs a hero shepherd this war has given it enough martyrs’ sacrificing himself for the continued existence of humanity and the rest of the galaxy.

    System failure-priority 2

Having sacrificed the quarians in favour of geth, you head to the crucible where you sacrifice your life firing the gun unfortunately without the expert help of the quarian engineers the crucible was built incorrectly and fails to start
Edi who thanks to you has admitted loving joker the thought of him dying is too much for her to bear causing her to request the help of the geth who agree to her estranged plan without informing anyone.
As shepherd returns to what remains of the rebel force he watches the reapers slowly starting to fall from the sky one by one and looks to watch all the geth doing the same. He quickly asks what’s happening resulting In Edi to answer, ‘you shepherd have learnt both me and the geth you taught the get hot all orgaics will hate them blindly and me that what it means to be human, but for me to be truly huma shepherd I must be willing to sacrifice all for those I love, goodbye shepherd tell joker I love him’ ad with that she falls to the ground following the geth as they all upload themselves into the reapers slowly overwriting there systems causing them to crash.

my apologies for not spoiler tagging i didn't think but looking at it there's a lot of spoilers in there
:? so thanks illusionary(?) for fixing it for me

    They don't die in-game. It's a hypothetical discussion.

Gotta love it when you practically carry a team of 400, 500 and 900 N7 ratings to victory on Gold multiple times but then get booted out of a lobby by a bunch of 200s because "He's not even reached 100 so he's going to be ****." As if that's an indication of skill than pure level boosting. :sogood:

There's this easy way to boost Gold on Firebase White with Geth if anyone is interested :ninja:

I'll be more active in May, some of us should play together :pierre:

N7 rank really does mean nothing. I only have a 120. I've levelled each class to 20 and I have no intention of promoting. I've carried people with really high N7 levels. It shocks me how bad some people are.

That's my plan too. It's rare that I've actually met someone who has done better than me on the leaderboard on Silver/Gold and I don't think I'm particularly skilled. I spend most of my time reviving the idiots (Vanguards) who think they are the next Rambo.

Salarian Infiltrator + Cloak + Energy Drain + M-98 Widow is such a beastly set up.
