Re: Nottingham vs LeedsI would prefer Nottingham to be honest.(Original post by darrochian)
I've received offers from both these universities (AAB) to study English and French. I'm awaiting decisions from two other AAA universities at the moment (rejected from Durham, boo.) But I cannot seem to decide between these two for my AAB option... both have such pros and cons. What is your opinion? -
Re: Nottingham vs Leeds
Come off your dickhead horse love. Chapeltown is full of pussys. My little 10 year old brother goes down there. West Yorkshire isn't rough at all in any areas. It's just full of junkies and crackheads. But thats about it. Nottingham is 100x times worst. Crime rates and statistics further prove this. Just because you want to increase tourism to Leeds and your area dont start preaching your bull**** on here. We are here to give student fair points. And I wouldnt apply for Nottingham your guaranteed to get shot or robbed at least once in the city.
And your clearly deluded if you dont think Nottingham has BNP. When the leaked reports came 40% of those were from Killasick, Arnold and areas in Nottingham. So get your facts right! -
Re: Nottingham vs Leeds
I've lived in both Nottingham and Leeds (I'm from Leeds) and Leeds wins hands down! It could be said I'm slightly biased, but Leeds really is better in everyway, especially for a student. University-wise, they're both Russell Group I think, and they both have good reps so I can't see much difference in terms of career after. Leeds nightlife is just AMAZING. Just the buzz of the city centre on a normal day is awesome. The shoppings fantastic, if you've got a lot of money then hey, even better! I grew up here and even though I went to Notts for a while, I couldnt wait to get back....so much to do and its always alive. I'd say the student areas like Headingley, Hyde Park and Woodhouse and pretty safe, but Hyde Park has a very high burglery rate (probably why its a bit cheaper). Headingley's generally expensive, but it has fantastic properties, shops, pubs, bars etc...it's known as the student village! Go Leeds and you can't go wrong! Nottingham is full of chavs, but if you stayed away from the council estates like St Anns, Meadows, Top Valley, Bestwood (not that youd have any reason to go there hopefully), then I think you'd be ok there too. Lenton tends to be the main student area there, which is a bit bland, but nice and leafy. Still, pick Leeds!

Re: Nottingham vs Leeds
Exactly Leeds is better, safer and good. High Burgarly, hjigh crime, nottinghams full of chavs and even the council estates come to the town and bully up everyone. The police theyre are crooked in Nottingham- Colin Gunn and the news on that proved that. And the other 50% of the force are racist. Its all been in the news that nottinghamshire police are the worst which is why the IPCC had to investigate them although its done **** all. If you want to get shot, die or get robbed move to 'Shottingham' AKA Nottingham and deal with hig burglary rates and racial bullying. But Leeds is the opposite and better

Oh my god, you are an idiot.
Sister went to Nottingham, she hasn't been shot or burgled which sadly proves your statement wrong.
I live in Leeds, have had my car attempted stolen 5 times in 2 years, explain that? -
Re: Nottingham vs Leeds
MrRS seems to have some very serious issues. If people want to defend Nottingham, or reccommend that OP go there in stead of Leeds, it's not an attack against you, just because it's not someone elses opinion that Leeds is better. Get a grip.
And for the record, the crime statistics in Nottingham are massively disproportionate. The reason it always comes out high up in crime figures, is due to the crime rate from the larger urban area - which ranks as the 7th largest population in the country between Liverpool and Sheffield - being applied to the population of the much smaller city population (It's only just in the top 20 population wise), and thus, the crime rate amongst a population of upwards of 750,000 (urban area) is applied to a much smaller population of around 350,000 (city population), so crimes per head come out looking much worse than they actually are. A simple and quick check of any crime statistics found on government websites will show you this.
As I said, MrRS, you need to stop getting so wound up. The world will not end if one person choooses to study and live in Nottingham over Leeds.Last edited by benji1987; 09-11-2011 at 17:18. -
Re: Nottingham vs Leeds
I have been to see both very recently. I personally preferred leeds
The staff were so friendly and clearly so passionate about their jobs! Nottingham too was nice, a very pretty campus! However, it didn't feel as well organised or professional:/ But both are very good universities! Just personal preference I guess
