A ranking is a number, it doesn't necessarily indicate talent, and Bellucci is no slouch, a powerful player with a big lefty forehand. Lest we forget, Federer struggled with another lefty South American - Alejandro Falla - 2 years ago.

A draw encompasses 7 matches, not just the semi final and final. You seem to be under the impression that the top 3 will straight set everyone they come across before the semis - neither of them managed it last year, Djokovic looked very shaky before the final and Federer was knocked out by Tsonga, who is in Nadal's quarter of the draw. An injury free Tsonga has a good shot against Rafa in the quarters - compare that to Federer who potentially has ... Tipsarevic. Just because Federer and Djokovic are in the same half and will likely face each other doesn't mean they have harder draws. Federer's draw is distinctly easy compared to Djokovic/Nadal/Murray because he doesn't have a single threatening name slated for the quarter finals - he's avoided Tsonga, Berdych, Raonic, Del Potro and Cilic, all of whom I would say have chances to cause an upset.

The way I see it, Federer is a virtual lock for the semi final, Djokovic slightly less so but not by much, and Nadal is a lock for the final. But that does not mean he has an easy draw. I just think he's playing so strongly and with the momentum of RG that only the man in final will have the ability to topple him.

I wish I could rep this.
Anyone got something to say on Federer's chances?

The first tennis final I remember properly was the famous fifth set 9-7 win by Nadal in I think 08.

I'd dearly love for Federer to win in front of my own eyes against Nadal, or at the least, at Wimbledon one last time. He plays with a grace and just oozes quality in a style that no sportsman I know matches. I go into every semi final desperately hoping he wins, and unfortunately, after that second set collapse against Djoker at RG, I think he's probably past it.

Someone please tell me I'm wrong?

Hmm I don't think he has much chance at Wimbledon to be honest, but I'd like him to prove me wrong. I still think he could win one more US Open though.

I don't think he can be completely ruled out, but I think a lot of people have lower expectations now. I think he's certainly capable (I'd love to see him win again as you say), we'll just have to wait and see.

I'd never seen your avatar/subtitle/sig before.

Federer beating Nadal in the final at Roland Garros is like a wet dream for me.

It'll be a nightmare for me

And Pandora will rub it into my face if he does win, especially after all our banter in the past few weeks

Haha, I hate Nadal. Sorry. He just seems a bit too arrogant on court for me.

Sorry to turn this into the Fed Express Appreciation society, but he always looks a lot more humble and classy on court. Same for Djoker. Whereas Nadal and Murray are more aggressive, which is something I usually love in sport, but I just see it as arrogance from them I guess.

I guess all of the top 3 have their fans for a reason. I love Federer for the same reason you do, but at the same time I don't see Nadal as arrogant. I can see why you do, but he seems like a pretty cool guy to me. He and Roger have a lot of respect for each other.

Yeah, I was really happy to see Djoker's embrace with Rafa after the RG final. He seemed a disappointed but humble guy, and you have to credit him and the sport of tennis for that. I don't really know much about Nadal off the court, I guess I don't hate him, but I like Fed and then Nole more. Maybe I like Djokovic because he beats Nadal? Makes sense to me anyway.
This is hypothetical but if Federer wins Wimbledon this year he becomes world number one again and beats Pete Sampras' record for most weeks spent there.

Current rankings:
1. Djokovic- 12280
2. Nadal- 10060
3. Federer- 9435

If Federer wins Wimbly- Best possible scenario for Djokovic is semi-finals so 12280-2000+720= 11000
- Best possible scenario for Nadal is final so he stays at 10060
- Federer gets 9435-360+2000= 11075

Not that i'm backing Federer to win this but it's interesting to see how the rankings change nonetheless...

Djokovic seems like the most humble loser if you get me, he's always willing to applaud brilliant shots by him opponents and never seems too disappointed when he does lose. This is probably where he gets his mental toughness from, he's just a chilled out kind of guy.
nice to see an all british final in the eastbourn atp 250 mens doubles, ross hutchins/colin fleming beat jamie delgado/ken skupski

I don't know, Nadal is usually humble and classy in defeat. But then in some of his interviews, he does seem to a bit arrogant. Agree about Murray, though
Nadal is the epitome of sportmanship and humbleness.

Cheers bud, save the rep for later.

Exciting fortnight ahead!
Created the obligatory annual Wimbledon thread if anyone is interested (since this society is more general discussion): http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2041117

EDIT: I think I got all the winners right. :ninja:

want fed/murray to win, but think djoko will win, would put money on del potro to cause an upset.

britians oli golding has a decent draw against igor andreev, so does josh goodall playing someone outside the top 100. james ward is playing a clay court specialist and is apparently favorite (oh dear!), jamie baker seems to have pulled the short straw and has roddick (who won eastbourne).
doubt Murray has a chance, based on recent form
Poor Venus is having a tough match so far. Hope she gets into it
