Tips on singing
When I eventually scrape some money together I will get some singing lessons but for now I've been pretty much googling "how to sing" which hasn't really come back with very much. Would be very grateful for any advice, pointers and corrections given

Here's a link to a cover I've done
Oh and try and keep hating to a minimum please

Re: Tips on singing
make sure you warm up before you sing and don't overdo it, I strained my voice recently.. was horrible!
and yea the breathing thing is important. You have to breathe and power your voice more from your stomach rather than your throat... Sorry if this doesn't really mean anything, ask a singer or your teacher if you get one to show you this, it makes such a difference to tone and power in your voice.
Good luck with your singing!

Re: Tips on singing
Hard to do this without someone to help - it's all very physical.
stand firm, feet shoulder width apart. Keep your chest up and shoulders down; don't sag when you breathe out. Breathe as deeply as you can and pressure (support) your breathe with your abs, glutes and thigh muscles - don't let it all go at once. Open your mouth wide and don't let your chin reach up - this will tighten your throat. Try to keep your throat and neck relaxed. Start in the middle of your range and gradually reach up and down to the more extreme pitches. try to balance your chest voice (the lower more powerful notes) with your head voice (higher, lighter notes).
get a good teacher or a mate who has been properly taught - beware youtube - there is an awful lot of c**p on there.
Good luck
