Your "No-one else gets it" Food and Drink Item - Everyone hates but you...Following on from the other thread, what is the food/drink item/combination that you love, but everyone else seems to hate?
For me it's marmite and scrambled eggs, cheese and jam, gingerbread with butter and cheese

I second you there on the Cheese and Jam. They go SO well together. I suppose, admittedly, I have dipped chocolate in tomato sauce and enjoyed it...
EDIT: Sure, sure, base your opinion of me on what I like to eat which contributes well to the point of this thread.Last edited by Joshalos; 13-03-2011 at 11:11. -

Sprouts. I absolutely ADORE sprouts and yet everyone else thinks they're awful. I love all my greens, and sprouts are right up there at the top for me with broccoli and cabbage.

There's also a disturbing amount of people who sneer at me and do the "blurgh" noise when I declare my love for tinned (or otherwise, I suppose) corned beef and spam.
I suppose when you grow up in a poor council estate, and your mam's made you a big pile of corned beef stovies/rumbledethumps as a "more exciting alternative" to fish fingers and beans, you learn to really appreciate things a bit better. I honestly can't think of anything more comforting as a meal - Mashed tatties, corned beef, cabbage, onion, all mashed together and griddled so the outside is crispy. Also, the mash has to still have some potato, cabbage, corned beef and onion "chunks" to give it that perfect texture.
Wonderful. -
Re: Your "No-one else gets it" Food and Drink Item - Everyone hates but you...Isn't the last thing you described called corned beef hash? My family make it with mash, corned beef, caremalised onion, baby tomatoes, mushroom and a little worcestershire sauce, plopped in a frying pan and cooked for a while. Fiendishly good.(Original post by TotoMimo)

Peas with ketchup, mmm yeah.
They're even better in strawberry milkshake.(Original post by LizDay)
Dip chips in a McFlurry. Trust me. It's orgasmic. -

Antiaris, I've always called it "stovies" or "rumbledethumps" (usually the former with meat, the latter without, but interchangeable really).
But it seems as though it's called numerous things depending on where you go - Colcannon, Bubble and Squeak, Corned beef Hash, Leftover cakes, etc.
They're all really the same thing with regional variations based on where you were brought up - a great leftover meal. -

Cheese and jam sandwich = epic. Also try cheese and marmalade, just as good.(Original post by greeneyedgirl)
