Re: The Pupillage Interview / Acceptance / Rejection Thread 2011Not as bad as city law firms, but maybe still working the odd evening or weekend during pupillage, more as a tenant. From what I've heard it's not generally more than 9 - 7ish during pupillage. As a tenant anywhere I think it varies hugely and can be very intense at times. But criminal sets are often even worse because they might involve catching trains in the early hours on a regular basis.(Original post by st_files)
Realistically what hours would you expect to work at a chambers like Quadrant? -
Re: The Pupillage Interview / Acceptance / Rejection Thread 2011(Original post by Nigel85)
Quadrant notifications just out by email. A taster of the hours that can be expected there, perhaps?
Though I prefer the idea they were all just out for dinner to decide our futures. It makes me picture drunken debate on the merits of the BCL vs 'life experience' among pupillage committee members!
Recruitment is all done out of hours because of course they are not paid for it. So that is a taster of what to expect. - putting in time as a member of the new business panel, pupillage panel, seminar organising panel, etc etc
With regards to working hours it is pretty common that solicitors will send papers close of business when you are at court/ opinion needed the next day so this should be factored in when making a career descision. While there is flexibility through not having instructions some days at other times you might be on lots of hearings in one week not getting back to chambers until 5 or 6 then having to do your admin such as fee notes for the clerks etc etc
Hours are really long, but its an enjoyable job. Thats the rubLast edited by FMQ; 16-02-2011 at 22:50. -
Re: The Pupillage Interview / Acceptance / Rejection Thread 2011Nothing in the junk mail folder but I shall assume it's a no.(Original post by Nigel85)
They're sending a test set apparently. Sorry you haven't heard yet. Anything in your junk mail folder?
If it's any consolation I've just realised a made a huge mistake on an application form I sent - completely getting a case wrong by confusing it with one with a (very) similar name!
Good luck with the test! I think their selection process looks very thorough. If I were designing a pupillage application process I'd place a great deal of weight on the sort of written test they have. -
Re: The Pupillage Interview / Acceptance / Rejection Thread 2011David Phillips sent out invites last night, for interview on Feb 26th.(Original post by FS139)
Has anyone heard from the non-chancery sets? Specifically David Phillips & Partners, 13 SJS or India Buildings? Ta -
Re: The Pupillage Interview / Acceptance / Rejection Thread 2011
Wilberforce and Serle Court 2nd rounds have been offered. I had a no from one and a yes from the other. It's nice to get through to one second round, but in general I'm starting to feel a bit despondent already, partly because I'm not sure what else I can do!
Good luck to everyone else waiting to hear. -
Re: The Pupillage Interview / Acceptance / Rejection Thread 2011Well done. A heads up though: public despondency probably isn't justified when you have a second round at one of the highest paying sets in the country! A lot of people never get a single interview.(Original post by Nigel85)

Re: The Pupillage Interview / Acceptance / Rejection Thread 2011Don't worry - I've had lots of rejections without interview too!(Original post by dalianatkinson)

Re: The Pupillage Interview / Acceptance / Rejection Thread 2011Any chance of posting up their question?(Original post by Nigel85)
PS Despondency also partly caused by the fact that Quadrant's problem question wants a 3000 word answer and there's no way I'll have time to do that before Wednesday! -
Re: The Pupillage Interview / Acceptance / Rejection Thread 2011That is utterly ridiculous. Don't they realise people have exams / theses etc on. A 3000 word exercise seems completely disproportionate.(Original post by Nigel85)

Re: The Pupillage Interview / Acceptance / Rejection Thread 2011Testing the ability to work hard and prioritise a number of difficult urgent tasks doesn't strike me as entirely ridiculous(Original post by pupillagehunt)
