I'm on the Electronic Engineering course at Surrey, but I transferred into second year, so I only know what other folk have told me.
The courses are very highly considered and some of the lecturers from first year are clearly well-liked. If you work hard and study outside of lectures, you'll be fine.
The Uni itself is really nice to be at - lots of green. There are generally good facilities, but it's all very, very expensive.
The Union is just ****e for everything except club-nights. That's alright if you like that sort of thing though - I don't! :-p
We've got a good uni newspaper and TV and ****-loads of sports and other clubs.
The accommodation is generally pretty good, but quite small.
Is there anything particular you want to know?
