Would an EPQ not related to medicine be worth mentioning? I'm about 60% certain I'll do one, but I'd rather do something related to theology/philosophy/politics/psychology... basically something that affects me but that I don't know much about.

If you do it on something "scientific", how do you turn it into something with arguments and evaluations without it just being a list of facts??
Dude, do you not do AS Biology?!

At the Nottingham open day someone asked and she said even though it's not going to be a major thing (as not everyone has the chance to do it), if you can do it and get 3 A's still, do it!

Not sure what to do mine on though!

Hmm, I think you have to take a subject which is currently quite controversial. But these are the hardest as you have to be as objective as possible, showing both/many perspectives of the issue. It doesn't have to be highly controversial like euthanasia, but its beneficial if there are at least a few different opinions around the subject.

If there aren't different opinions on the subject and its quite scientific/fact based, it will probably be a bit harder to make the essays argumentative/evaluative.

'nor will it be acceptable for candidates to offer an Extended Project and an A-level in one and the same subject'

that's from BSMS and I'm guessing medicine falls in the same category as biology or chemistry, so it's probably a good idea not to do a medicine related topic.

Can anyone think of a topic to do with cancer- obviously a lot narrower than that. Thanks.

I dunno if biology and medicine are the same subject... like some people are doing stuff on lukemia/stem cells etc and we don't cover them in Bio. :dontknow:

I've started working on PS and I don't have space to mention much so I reckon EPQ won't get priority. :p:

    Medical Malpractice Project
    Hi!
I'm doing a project based on the 'Increase of Medical Malpractice claims within the NHS'.
I' investigating mainly why and how can this be prevented.
    My questions are:

    1) Why does everyone want to become a Doctor nowadays?
    2) How many law graduates specialise in 'Medical Malpractice' in the UK alone?
    3) Reasons for Doctors to be sued

There are very little or no articles that can help me to find this out, so please, if you have any links, book references, anything to help me through this project, I'd like to hear from you

    Regards

    CintiaMarina

Just type in the name of your project into Google and you'll find some links there. There's one from The Telegraph and several research articles about the NHS reforms potentially causing an increased number of claims.

There's plenty out there, the MDU, MPS and MDDUS will keep records and should publish them.

However, you may want to try asking questions which have answers.

    Project question
    Hi!
Im doing a project on medical negligence claims within the NHS. These are my questions:

    - In the UK, how many lawyers (in 10) graduate/specialise in Medical malpractice
    - Why is this?
    - Evaluate the reasons why do medical negligence claims are increasing within the NHS
    - How does the legal sector deal with such claims?

If you could help me with any article links, book references, or just stuff you know, it would be much appreciated

    Thank you

Lots of threads popping up at the moment, so here's a place to discuss your EPQ!

I did my EPQ on malaria and got an A* so if you have any questions you think I can help with please quote me
    Hi,

what did you research for your malaria project?

    Hi,

what did you research for your malaria project?
General physiology & link with HIV
Did also talk about impact of global warming (evidence suggesting it won't affect malaria at all vs. media etc etc)
