Bar codes don't become inactivated when you pay for the item... Only stuff that has security tags on it (bottles of whisky, DVDs, etc) set off the door alarms. OP, just give it a few days and check your bank accounts for a £30 payment to Sainsbugs. If you'd just picked up your shopping without paying I reckon the person after you would have said something since they wouldn't have been able to use that self service till without you completing your transaction.

Re: Just stole all my shopping from Sainsburys?!
I did something similar once, only it was a bottle of suncream (worth about £3) I'd forgotten I'd picked up (I was carrying a gazillion shopping bags too at the time). It was a genuine mind-slip, I'd never "stolen" anything before in my life.. To cut a long story short, the combination of over-zealous staff and a total dick of a security card resulted in the police being called (I'm serious!), and I left an hour and a half later with an £80 fine and a blip on my criminal record. I was told the fine wasn't an admission of guilt and once it was issued it had to be paid. They also said it wouldn't be on my record and was their idea of a "slap on the wrist" (wtf?).
The fact that I didn't mean to do it, £80 was an entire month's food money, and a little digging revealed that FPNs do appear on an enhanced disclosure (which I'll need for medicine) makes me so angry.
There's no point me contesting it now because the matter is "closed" and I apparently haven't admitted I'm guilty.. I've spoken to some shop workers who have said they'd never prosecute in my circumstances, but a few said they would. It's all about "zero tolerance" and "store policy" rather than common sense these days.
I'd say you were lucky not to have been stopped. I'd go back and pay if I were you though.Last edited by Schroedinger's Pandora; 18-02-2011 at 19:06. -
Re: Just stole all my shopping from Sainsburys?!This made me laugh so much! Haha! Love it.(Original post by CapnHooch)
It's common knowledge that Sainsburys employs people to look through this site for any evidence of crimes like this.
Run.
Run as far as you can and hide yo' kids, and hide yo' wife, cause' they raping everybody out 'ere.
But seriously, i'd personally enjoy my free food. -

You didn't steal the food if the barriers didn't go off. I'm pretty sure they go off when unscanned food passes the barrier. I'd chillax personally.
Not unless it's tagged. Clothes tend to be tagged in most stores, cosmetics, toiletries and CDs/DVD's will usually have the rectangular strip tag.expensive alocohol, usually...food? No. Though some Tesco's here in bad areas have tags for expensive steaks! But other food is not. -

Re: Just stole all my shopping from Sainsburys?!Free FOOD!!! the police would now smash your door down and arrest you for crimes against humanity(!)(Original post by Broderss)
Just realised I didn't pay for my shopping, I just walked straight out the store with £30+ worth of food
I used a self checkout and don't remember putting my card in and I don't have a receipt

Should I go in tomorrow and speak to the manager? Or should I never return and hope I got away with it?
What will happen if I don't go see them to sort it out? -
