    8: Gorillaz , Sum 41

9: Foo Fighters, Coldplay and Eminem (but the mother sent The Eminem Show back due to its explicit conent. No idea why...)

10-11: Mainly indie (), alternative rock and a bit of electronica. Including Kaiser Chiefs, Franz Ferdinand and Faithless.

12: The Prodigy. Oh yes. This was a major turning point after hearing 'Their Law' and my brother and I have been addicted to electronic music ever since.

13-14: Still mainly The Prodigy, with buying all of their albums and joining on of their fansites (which I still go on regularly today). Also The Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Massive Attack and various other popular electronic acts from the 90s. Also started delving into the commercial types of drum and bass (such as Pendulum's Hold Your Colour).

15-16: Became a fan of Hospital Records, loving the releases of artists such as Chase & Status, London Elektricity and Danny Byrd. Also discovered Burial and fell in love with trip hop.

17: Started really getting into the deeper types of dubstep/future garage from the likes of Joy Orbison, Dark Sky and Eleven Tigers. Continued love for melodic and soulful drum and bass as well as 90s electronica and Gorillaz.

In bold are the artists that I've especially continued to listen to ever since I first ventured into their music. It's been quite a journey.

I liked nothing but chart music when I started secondary school.

    Year 10
Discovered I really liked MCR, Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco.

    Year 11
Watched a lot of Scuzz TV. Started to like Avenged Sevenfold, Atreyu and Bullet For My Valentine. Began to listen to lots of Metalcore like 36 Crazyfists.

    Year 12
Came across bands like Protest The Hero, The Human Abstract and Forever In Terror - bands that were more technical.
Introduced to Melodic Death Metal, especially Scar Symmetry and Sonic Syndicate.

    Year 13
Kept listening to lots of Metal but rediscovered my love for pre-teen favourites like Backstreet Boys, Westlife and Orson.

    Since A-Levels
Opened up to lots of Metal subgenres like Prog, Thrash and Power Metal. Kamelot rapidly became my favourite band.

Age 13-14-15; a lot of 'indie' stuff that you'd hear on tv shows, like the Fray, Keane (:facepalm2:), The Perishers, Death Cab for Cutie. Apart from a few bands, it was pretty reasonable compared to what was about to happen.

Age 15-16; Jimmy Eat World, Fall out Boy, All Time Low, Blink 182, Good Charlotte, Britney Spears. No comment...

Age 16-bit of age 17; started getting into 'metalcore' and emo... so loads of cheesy stuff, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet of my valentine, Escape the Fate, Parkway Drive, August Burns Red, System of a Down, Sum 41 (:facepalm2:) still listening to All time Low, pop-punk bands like The Maine, Forever the Sickest Kids and god knows what. It gets worse: Owl City.

At the end of 17, I started getting into more reasonable stuff when I downloaded Antics from Interpol. It kinda brought me on the right track even though I don't like the band that much lately. Went on to listen to Klaxons, The Strokes, a few shameful Killers, Kooks and Kings of leon tracks. Then it gets much better, I get into Radiohead, listen to Joy Division, Arcade Fire, Pavement, Neutral Milk Hotel. Then at mid 18 (present) I start getting into experimental, psychedelic and shoegaze, to the likes of My Bloody Valentine, The Radio Dept., Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, MGMT, listening to the Beatles more, the Velvet Underground, Deerhunter; electronic Aphex Twin, Flying Lotus, Boards of Canada, Gorillaz etc. Started listening to dubstep lately, Burial, James Blake, finding out a bit more about the genre..

So yeah it went from atrocious to good.

Year 6: Green Day, Sum 41, Blink-182, pop punk basically.
Year 8: Classical Stuff, especially Schubert (**** know's why)
Year 10: Metallica, Disturbed, Dream Theater soft met-ally stuff.
Year 12: Bring Me The Horizon, Slipknot, Dillinger Escape Plan, Lamb of God, Protest the Hero, Between the Buried and Me.

I'll add that I only recently discovered BMTH, after thinking that they were a metal band that ***** said they liked in order to sound hardcore. The reason people liked them is because they're so ****ing good. Easily my favourite band at the moment.

Grew up in a house full of reggae and ska, then moved on to indie rock in my teens, and over the past two years i've moved onto hip-hop. So now its a mixture of those. Oh and Hendrix, lots of Hendrix.

Always been indie from about 11. Nowadays I mix it up with Dub, Grime and HipHop. (Chiddy bang, big sean etc)

My music taste isn't linear anymore, used to be strictly indie, but now I'll listen to a lot of things which I reckon sound good, even some chart stuff. But still an Indie kid at heart though.

+ Lol at the fecktards telling other people their music tastes 'suck', who the hell are you to dictate what music my ears like? Piss off.

Re: How has your music taste developed?
9-10 - pop. busted and avril lavigne

11-13 - same but with Dark Fortress, slayer, Iron maiden, metallica, megadeth, black sabbath and stuff my dad showed me as well as the chart ****

13 - 16 - found out difference between subgenres of metal rather than thinking it was all just metal. Got really into black metal such as: wyrd, darkthrone, lunar aurora, emperor, burzum, immortal, bathory, mayhem, and myrkskog. Completely broke all ties with mainstream pop music other than Muse.

    16. My bro asked me to put some stuff on his new mp3 player as he is technologically challenged, lol. I asked him what bands and he said Guns N Roses, Queen, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. I went and got loads of my dad's CD's and ripped them all to my computer, listening to a track off of each one every time I ripped it (had only really listened to Maiden and Priest at this point, never heard any Pink Floyd) Was blown away by them all, and wanted to listen to everything good in the world (listened to some queen outside the well known stuff, much better on the whole), so went and ripped every single one of my dad's cds, and basically became obsessed with music and got into so many bands that I'd never even heard of or had even registered as any good, Floyd, Rainbow, Dio era black sabbath, diamond head, possessed, dark angel, blut aus nord, death, akercocke, nile, deep purple, amon amarth, my dying bride and candlemass stand out as particular highlights.
About 16 and a half I discovered illegal downloading and got into a ****ton of bands of tons of metal genres. Mostly female fronted metal/gothic metal/doom metal, as I loved Evanescence, Lacuna Coil and Nightwish for a few years, found loads of bands and got into that genre for months. Heard drone for the first time in the likes of Boris and Sunn O))) Hendrix and the doors were more incredible bands I found in this year

17 - first heard the gathering became OBSSESSED with their music. Got really into death metal (apart from the 4 or 5 bands I liked, Nile, Akercocke, cannibal corpse and myrkskog I thought it was all crap that sounded the same). Read about swedish death metal in a terrorizer magaizne and was intirgued. I bought the 3 disc compliation it was talking about and loved it and it kickstarted a love for death metal in me, so much so that I now have over 4000 death metal songs on my ipod, and over 3500 grindcore songsd

18 - present. Still into metal and rock as much as ever, but I have started to try and be more open minded. Discovered shoegaze through the gatherings cover of slowdives when the sun hits, and then through shoegaze I discovered school of seven bells, and due to their electronic elements as well as a friend who kept telling me to listen to them, I got into electronic bands such as tangerine dream and klaus schulze, and I still try and find new music in shoegaze and early electronic now. Also got into Porcupine Tree. I liked FOABP since I first heard it about a year or 2 ago, but I got into their other stuff and became somewhat obssessed in the last month lol. Also bought a guitar this year and I am trying to learn stuff like Pink Floyd, sabbath, megadeth, rainbow, deep purple, gillan, dio and bob dylan. Not doing too well lol. Also started to like some old pop songs, like heart of glass by blondie, gold by spandau ballet, dont stop believing by journey, never gonna give you up and that kind of ****e. Just an easily listening change every now and again.

Age 8-11: Pop stuff mostly, the likes of S Club 7, Steps, Busted, Spice Girls etc. I told a friend I didn't like 50 Cent and she said I needed to step away from cheesy music.
Age 12-13: Tried listening to the Dance & RnB stuff in the charts, but I mostly listened to my parents' music collection - bands like Queen & Blondie. I didn't really listen to much else.
Age 14-16: I got into Fall Out Boy and thought that pop punk bands would be the best thing for me to listen to, but ended up not really finding any new music that stood out, mostly because I didn't have the means to listen to it.
Age 17: After hearing Motorcycle Emptiness, I decided to listen to more of the Manic Street Preachers' back catalogue. I fell in love with a lot of it instantly. From there I've moved onto other Britpop/90s bands such as Blur, Suede, Oasis and Pulp, but I couldn't really say I was into a particular genre of music - I'll listen to and appreciate many different musical styles, apart from Dance and RnB.

I liked S Club 7 and Britney Spears when I was about 8.

    And now I don't.

I think that's a big enough development to be thankful for.
Everyone has a soft spot for S Club 7 in their heart!

Re: How has your music taste developed?
    Ooh cool thread.
    <12 years old: I listened to R&B/Pop.
At 12 years old I found My Chemical Romance..yeah, I went through my emo phase. I listened to Bullet For My Valentine, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco, Paramore etc. (typical bands emos listen to)
At ~13 years, I found Slipknot. I listened to mainstream metal(core) like SOAD, Linkin Park - Bring Me the Horizon etc. I was also into Dance House.
~14 years I listened to many forms of metal, but my favourite was Doom/Goth metal - bands like Sins for thy Beloved, Tristania, Theare of Tradegy. I also like Industrial bands like Deathstars, Combichrist, Celldweller. My favourite radio station was Magic. I was also learning Arabic, so I listened to lots of Arabic music like Nourhanne, Mohammed Mounir, Amr Diab, Miami, Arwa.
~15 years, I found K-pop. My favourite groups are SS501, Super Junior, U-KISS, MBLAQ, etc.
~16 years, I listen to an accumulation of everything I used to listen to plus K-pop and now some C-pop. I watch Jools Holland's show too, so I find some artists there.

I tend to just listen to what sounds good to me. When I was younger, I used to have this idea that I should listen only to what fits the genre.
