    San Diego/LA
    Hey =)

Just wondering if someone can offer me a little advice...

I plan to go to San Diego & LA around may/june time - for about 2/3 weeks =)

Just wondered how much money i should budget for each day, for the first 10 days i will be staying with a friend so wont need to eat out! - oh and accommodation i will be sorted too...

If anyone has been to these parts of cali could you recommend any must see places??!

    Thanks

You're going to have so much fun!

Okay, so if you're going to be staying with someone then that will be a big help to your pockets. Still, there are so many nice restaurants in LA, spoil yourself a bit, especially if you're already saving money.

Places to check out in LA:

    - Santa Monica Pier
    - Promenade (shoppers paradise, near the Santa Monica Pier)
    - Venice Beach, Muscle Beach (I always see celebrities there, sometimes just sitting in the stands watching basketball)
    - The Block in Orange County
    - Magic Mountain (If you like crazy rides)
    - Disneyland (if you like cute rides)
    - Downtown Disney ( Check out the ESPN Zone...NICE!)
    - Go for a drive along PCH to Laguna Beach (beautiful drive)
    - Malibu (a bit north and out of the way, but worth the drive)
    - Universal City Walk (Universal Studios, they have a couple good rides, mostly if you're into Hollywood and checking out the backlots of certain shows or movies)
    - Pine Avenue in Downtown Long Beach ( a lot places to have a great time, if you don't want to deal with Sunset Blvd., check out Smoothe's)

    Hope this helped! Have fun!

Huntington beach is nice, as is laguna beach, really lovely there. I don't know many places in San Diego, but I've stayed in the Old town area. Mission bay and beach is good, and the downtown and gaslamp districts are good to check out, also go to the marina.

The possibilities really are endless in Southern California.

Taxi's and what-not cost a lot of $$$ so take $200 (a day) minimum (can go as high as $600 ) carry around money plus credit card

Basically unless you do non-paid stuff like beach and hills and things like that then you are going to be spending **** loads.

I put the above $200 based on my trip there... mind you I have expensive tastes

I spent $100 for lunch once  I get that for dinner but lunch

It is possible you won't spend that much but I'm a freak for expensive things

Walk everywhere... although it won't be possible as this isn't New York... everything is so far apart

You could cut it down to $50 with walking, sightseeing (although some admissions and food costs in those areas are slightly OTT), only have lunch or dinner out somewhere not both in same day and beaching it up should help obivously the more upmarket you go... the more expensive it gets

Sightseeing will be quite costly as places like Disney Land and Universal are hugely expensive!

I would say on average, you should take around $300, not including the price for a hostal or hotel. It's enough to be comfortable, and it might be more than you actually need, but it's better to be on the safe side.

For great places to stay, I would say pick a hostal. They do a lot of sightseeing tours and that's also a great way to not have to worry about public transportation. I had a friend stay here: http://www.usahostels.com/ and he seemed to really like it.

LA in the summer is the best, you're not going to want to come back, lol

I'm thinking of going San Diego soon too, it looks really close to the Mexican border so is there anything across the border that side worth seeing? That's assuming it's even possible to exit and re-enter the country :dontknow:

This may sound really stupid but ... $300 a day or week??

We wont have a car, so is it going to be hard for us to see places or is the public transport going to be ok?

Sorry for asking you all the questions, but you know loads about it =)

    Thankyou

Public Transport in LA is awful. The underground is okay, I guess, but don't rely on buses or anything.

As for San Diego, go to the Zoo xD and they have an awesome mall.
