"Suckered by the Advert" - Food and Drink where the Ad fooled you into buying!

Sometimes we see a TV advert, banner online or a magazine ad for a product and think,

"Wow. That made that look like the most incredible thing in the world. I MUST HAVE IT NOW."

So you dash out, make the purchase, and then are absolutely gutted at how crap it is. Maybe it's just nowhere near the size it looked on the telly. Maybe it tasted like a bag of soggy socks. But somehow, the item you saw on the advert totally suckered you into buying this... abomination.

For me, the two most recent examples:

Subway Chicken Temptation

The NAME alone makes it sound special. The advert shows the chicken as looking like the old-style McChicken Sandwich coating (or the old McChicken Nugget coating) - you know, the wrinkled, crunchy battery coating and amazingly juicy-licious chicken itself. I thought I was going to have a taste sensation.

But for some reason, it was the absolute opposite of this. A lukewarm, slightly soggy, microwaved-farmfoods-budget-chicken fillet that tasted a bit like when you totally over-boil a chicken to death, leaving it tasting like water.

This is infuriating as Subway is usually high-tier for me!

Matteson's Fridge Raiders

The ads have men and women diving all over the shop to get their hands on these "succulent bites of delicious chicken". And me being me, I thought, "REAL MEAT, but with the convenience of a bag of crisps?! Count me in!"

So I got some of the Roast Chicken variety, opened it up - first of all, there's like four of them in there. But I suppose in a way that's a blessing as opposed to a curse, really. When I picked one up, it felt weird. Like... weird. Like a wrinkled eraser, if you'd rubbed a bit of Flora on it. Rubbery and greasy at the same time.

Then I took a bite. Wow, not only does this taste NOTHING like chicken (actually more like sausage), but how can something with such a bizarre greasy coating be so dry?! It's like when you overcook Quorn sausages... kinda rough, dry interior.

Overall, the adverts totally suckered me in.
Screw you, adverts. Never again!

....

Oo, advert for BK Melt n' Middle looks good....:K:

Hmm I dunno I wish I could think of something. I haven't watched TV in ages. Hopefully someone else will post something that will rekindle my memory and they will get +1

Negs a bit harsh I only made this post to bump Toto's thread up because it was getting no attention and I thought it was a good idea.

The other day I had Dominos Pizza for the first time. On their website they were advertising some sort of meaty pizza with bbq sauce instead of tomato sauce. The pic made it look nice. 'Ooh how original' I thought, so I ordered it.

BBQ sauce and pizza do not go together. That was the first time I've ever left a pizza unfinished. Nobody would eat it. I was so pissed off, it looked like **** and it tasted awful.

I will stick with pizza hut from now on :colonhash:

BTW another great thread. Heres an idea for the next one- foods that don't go together

-_-

Totally agree about the fridge raiders! From the advert I thought they were going to be yummy, but I was disturbed by their shape - chicken shouldn't be that shape!
How many of these threads do you want to make, it's making me hungry :colone:
Dreamies treats, tasted bland and nothing like real chicken tasted like gone off cat food or something.
I'll have to say Oreo's. They look so scrumptious, but you can't even twist it without it crumbling in your hands and not even dunking it in milk would change the fact they taste like ****.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE, MATE.
Texas BBQ is just :sogood:

For me it's the M&S food adverts, I love M&S- but you're kidding yourself if you think it's as glamorous and sexy as the adverts.

:lolwut: BBQ sauce and pizza don't go together, buddy!

Whats next? Salad cream pizza? Marmite pizza? Peanut butter pizza?

Whats the world coming!?

:mmm:
Gotta agree with Lechaton on this one. Just depends on your combinations... Or indeed maybe it's a marmite situation of either you love it or you don't.

PIzza adverts are always a fun one - the stringy cheese and all. Then you normally get some half-assed job =P

Salad cream is amazing with pizza, but I agree, probably wouldn't want one made from salad cream.

Marmite pizza on the other hand... I have made one and it was LEGENDARY! (but not if you don't like Marmite...)

Don't 'buddy' me, that term is only for people who appreciate the orgasmic combination of bbq sauce and pizza base, topped with spicy chicken, red onions and green bell peppers....

Look, I like bbq sauce as much as the next guy. But on a pizza? What were the people at Dominos smoking when they came up with that idea? You've got to take it simple with pizzas, buddy, the simpler the better. Now I think about it, I don't like the cheesy crust thing either.

Tomato sauce FTW
