LOL wtf are you going on about?!?! haahah i never realised "fine" equated to "perfect F1 driver hero"... i am sorry for saying i am a "fine" driver... as far as i was aware fine meant average but apparently lewis hamilton is just a fine driver....?
why is ok for people who pass 2nd or third to say they are capable of driving safely but not those who pass first time? why am i automatically classed as a racer who thinks she's invincable just because i am challenging the stereotype that passing first leads to be being arrogant cocky and crashing?

    some people are so oversensative

anyway you failed 4 times... you weren't ready... that is not a critisism, just a comment.. different people take different lengths of time to be ready for the test... and you didn't just fail on the reverse parking according to your story.

you also don't need to do the reverse parking "perfectly" to pass... and yes i did all maneuvers to a pass worthy standard consistently before i took my test.
whats pissing me off about you is that you seem to think you were there throughout all the lessons i had and that you know my driving inside out!

you are being cocky and arrogant because you passed first time! you are only supporting the steorotype yourself...

i never at all once said that first time?!

can you say every time you've done a reverse park etc you've done it perfect in one go?! you must of done it perfect every time because of how 'ready' you are/were
She was clearly ready enough to get passed first time, and did the manoeuvre and drove to a standard that was deemed safe by the examiner, you didn't.

You didn't the first, second, third or fourth time.

OK, fair enough you can fail if your unlucky, once, maybe twice at a push. But the majors you got were fairly bad.

So you shouldn't be saying that people who pass first time are arrogant, rubbish drivers. They were assessed to the same standard as you, sure you had more lessons, but only to get you to the standard of the people who passed first time.

I think what this thread does is great, sources of motivation are always good. But don't moan about people who passed first time, because in actual fact you are probably no better a driver than some one who passed first time.

when did i ever say they were rubbish?!

im saying they are cocky, which this thread is showing well!

i never did say that either?! (second bold text)

my instructor said i was at the test standard at the start... again i'll ask you, since passing, have you ever messed up on a reverse park? i think i know what the answer will be.

You clearly weren't test standard, and I don't mess up more than 4/5 of my reverse parks, and they never have to be completely re-done because they were so bad.

You have been suggesting that they are bad drivers through the thread. Re-read some of your comments if your not convinced.

Also I think you might be mistaking people who passed first time's anger and frustration at you for implying that we are not as good at driving as some one who passed 2nd or even 5th time, for arrogance.

good to see this thread is still being read. a little update, its been well over a year since i passed and have since earned my one years no claims and have had no minor or major crashes at all. about 2 or 3 near miss but that was with no other cars involved aha. i also drive a van for work. my insurance dropped from £2830 to £1270.

... and it still feels great when i drive!

good story, the driving test is pretty flawed.
I know so many idiots who passed the first time and have already totalled their cars. And to those saying that if you don't pass your driving test you're not safe to be driving in the roads, I'm pretty sure that if everyone who passed their tests 10 years ago took them again now, they wouldn't pass. drivers that have recently passed/learned are better, if anything, because they are concentrating more when they are driving and are generally more cautious/ less likely to take risks.

    congratulations OP!

i completely agree; it annoyed me the people in this thread who wrote because it took me 5 times to pass, i was going to crash anytime soon. with one years no claims bonus they can do one; i know many people who passed first time, said i was crap, guess who doesnt have any no claims bonuses

Thank you soooo much for this post. It really made me feel better about my situation. I have been taking lessons for 15 months now. I have seen endless people on Facebook pass their test after 3/4/5 months of lessons and even someone learning with the same instructor as me, who passed after 2 months!
Despite my instructor's motivation, I always felt like just giving up. I failed my theory test 2 times before i eventually passed, and even my family were telling me that I may as well give up.
I had a lesson today and my instructor said that he wants me to book my test. So here's hoping!

I've been learning 2h/week since my 17th birthday, nearly 19 now. I've only just got to a standard where I can begin to do practice tests with my instructor. My manoeuvres are still iffy - I can't judge parallel parks or reverse bay parks at all, though the other two manoeuvres are test standard. My general driving is usually very good but the moment something unusual comes up like a particularly confusing roundabout or a narrow road where i need to pull in to let someone pass, I panic, freeze and my instructor has to take over the wheel and the pedals. This happens about twice per lesson and no matter what I've tried I can't get over it. My instructor even risked taking me in a car without dual controls to see if I would do better if I wasn't so sure he'd be there to save me. It didn't work.

Posts like this used to give me a ton of motivation but I'm at a point where I just want to stop learning to drive. I can picture myself eventually getting massively lucky, having an easy test and passing. Then going out in my own car, getting into a panicky situation, freezing up and killing somebody.

sorry for bumping but i was looking back at this thread and reading the comments from people, saying i'll crash etc and i'm a terrible driver. for the past year i have been driving a small transit van daily and on some occasions a big three seater transit van, along with my car often; making very long distance journeys, short journeys etc...

oh and yes - i still have my no claims discount when it comes to renewal. no big crashes from someone who passed nearly two years ago after taking five times to pass the test.

if you still havent passed, dont be put off by people saying you are a bad driver. keep at it because one day, you will get that pink license!
