Manchester Metropolitan is "the most popular university 2011"
Welcome to the Manchester Metropolitan University forum: where prospective and current students can discuss anything about Manchester Met.

Re: Manchester Metropolitan is "the most popular university 2011"why would you say that their is nothing wrong with mmu(Original post by Mr_Pest)
Your degree paper is just toilet paper. -
Re: Manchester Metropolitan is "the most popular university 2011"
I study at MMU and absolutely love it.
For me the important thing about MMU was it offered the degree part time. Being an older student with a family and work commitments there was just no way I could attend somewhere full time.
I did get AAAB at A level (when I sat them oooh some 20 years ago!) but university was not an option for me at that time in my life and I needed employment.
You could say that a 'well regarded' university would accept me with those grades but on reflection most of those universities are actually not good enough for me!
They are inflexible and only offer the course in the same old way - its full time or not at all. I imagine it is due to timetabling and teaching restrictions in fairness to them but MMU is proving more forward thinking for me in that they acknowledge there are students from many different backgrounds that wish to study and they allow for that.
The university is friendly, I fit in and enjoy the course. The lecturers - well I really rate them. I certainly understand everything and have no issue with how the subject is taught.
I would never criticise a persons choice of university. After all YOU need to be happy there to be successful.
It is all a matter of personal choice. -
Re: Manchester Metropolitan is "the most popular university 2011"I think he did biomed, then went onto another uni to do is masters etc.(Original post by pinklover96)
what course did he study to become a surgeon -
Re: Manchester Metropolitan is "the most popular university 2011"
those who take the micky out of manchester metropolitan reaslly dont get the point of it. its a university, it gives degrees and teaches people about employment. to slag it off really is quite rude and unfortunate for them as they are up there own backsides. i came from a comprehencive and did better than those in a grammer school therefore just because you go to a better university doesnt mean that you will get a better job.

Re: Manchester Metropolitan is "the most popular university 2011"
lol, i decided against going into my second year at uni of the arts in london 'cause a similar course looked better at manchester met. it's a bloody good uni and i know people who have gone straight into employment afterwards. i really don't understand why people like you (petebuckson) take the time out of your day to specially come on here to say 'lmao man met'. mature. really mature.

Re: Manchester Metropolitan is "the most popular university 2011"It ranks comfortably inside the top 100 universities in the UK. Hence it must be a prestigious institution.(Original post by Khaysha-Saine)

I just came across this article which states that Manchester metropolitan got the most UCAS applications this year which I found slightly ironic after the amount of people on TSR slate the university! Out of pure curiosity what do people think of the uni and was you one of the 52,750 people who applied
I know I was and got my place!?!
Digital Media & Economics Joint Honour 2011 here I come!
Why the neg rep
i dont understand :'(

Re: Manchester Metropolitan is "the most popular university 2011"Kosaku, whoever you are, are you serious? People come on here to talk to others about their course they've chosen, halls they're going into etc, and the most recent comment I've seen on this is you, slagging off this University. Like you have nothing better to do with your life than to come on here and act like a snob. I'd just adore to see if you're truly like this when you're not infront of a computer. You sound like a God awful snob. Please, go. Go back to whatever university/rock you came from, and don't be so unbelievably rude to other people via the bloody internet.(Original post by Kosaku)

It's not about being a snob or anything of the like, it's about stating the truth.
Sure not everyone is going to be clever enough to study subjects like Medicine
or at a decent university but hey that's just the way the world works.
Just because Manchester Met has so many applications doesn't mean it's any good. It just means that a shedload of numpties are looking for somewhere to go and have a doss around for 3 or 4 years and get drunk at the same time and let's be fair Manchester ain't a bad place for a party is it?
I'd rate the Open University above Manc Met which is by no means a bad university at all and distance-learning is pretty tough. It'd certainly be a rigorous academically challenging task than anything at Manc Met.
But yeah let's be fair it's not like anyone from Manc Met is going to be a world leader, win a nobel prize, be an expert in their field, CEO of an Investment Bank or change the world in any way shape or form. But if it makes you feel happy and proud that you were able to go to "university" and get a "degree" even it is from Manc Met then who am I to deny you that opportunity in life...equal rights and all that BS. -
Re: Manchester Metropolitan is "the most popular university 2011"Yeah, there's plenty of people who attend MMU who are clever. Not to sound stuck-up or anything but I got AAB at A-level which most RG universities accept for my course, but MMU's teaching quality and general outlook really impressed me so I decided to study there instead. Has it ever occurred to you that the flexibility MMU offers its students (i.e. more joint honours options, part-time study etc.) is a reason for people to go over, say, its counterpart the University of Manchester?(Original post by Kosaku)

Nobody on here really cares what you have to say because you sound very uninformed and it's outraged you that us mere mortals are trying to further ourselves; it sounds like you feel threatened by the competition more than anything else. Worry about your own life and ambitions before you start slating others - if the whole world were Medical students the world simply would not function.
I think it's very presumptuous of you to assume that nobody from MMU will win a Nobel Prize or achieve something else great; it's all relative and it's unlikely the many thousands of students who graduate from there each year would agree with your comments. I kinda feel sorry for your negative outlook, it must be a shame to live your life being so bitter.
As for "denying the opportunity in life", don't worry, you aren't as you're not a postgraduate admissions tutor nor are you an employer.Last edited by SpicyStrawberry; 16-07-2012 at 00:40. -

LOL I mean do you honestly think places like Queen's Belfast, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield and Cardiff are on par with the likes of Oxford, Cambridge
LSE, Imperial, UCL or even Warwick or King's or Edinburgh? Seriously?
AAB is average/below average grades so it's nothing special. For Manc Met probably scholarship worthy.
And if a Manc Met alumnus ever wins a Nobel Prize I'll eat my underpants. -
Re: Manchester Metropolitan is "the most popular university 2011"I'm sure Manc Met alumni will be able to get onto a decent postgrad course at the likes of Leeds Met or London Met or perhaps at a stretch Plymouth or Salford lol.(Original post by SpicyStrawberry)

As for employers I'm sure the big 5 fast food chains/chip shops will all be beating a path to your door to recruit you.
Now that we're done with that, I'll have McChicken Sandwich, Fries and Coke please

Re: Manchester Metropolitan is "the most popular university 2011"I never said anything about which universities are on par with which, are you struggling with reading comprehension?(Original post by Kosaku)

As for AAB being below average, all I can say is that you're quite detached from reality. If it's acceptable to well-respected institutions (whether you agree or not, the RG is considered respectable) it's not a bad set of grades, but far from the best that the likes of Cambridge and Oxford demand. I never claimed to be top university quality, but my point is that you cannot assume all MMU students are stupid because you're wrong.
As for the Nobel Prize, I'm pretty sure two scientists from MMU were credited as part of a large group of scientists working together when a prize was given out fairly recently. -
Re: Manchester Metropolitan is "the most popular university 2011"How original, did you think of that all by yourself?(Original post by Kosaku)

Manc Met scientists credited in Nobel Prize? It's 16th July not 1st April. Had me going there for a minute.

Lol, I'm sorry, but I really couldn't care less what you study nor which University you attend. But seen as we're boasting about ourselves here, let me tell you a little about me. I gained places in all five Universities I applied for last year, took up a place at University of the Arts in London and decided against it after a few months of starting as I couldn't afford to live there. Applied again to another five this year, gained another five spots (and since we're still boasting, University of Cambridge for History of Art to be exact), and I found Manchester School of Art the most appealing. Not because of it's night life, not because it has a reputation of 'dossing' or whatever people feel the need to natter about, but because of its remarkable reputation at the school, the work experience I can gain abroad, the high rate of employment afterwards. Am I numpty? Do I sound like a numpty to you, Kosaku? Do I sound like I'm about to rave about my 3 year 'doss' at university?
I couldn't give a crap about how many applicants MMU has previously had. All I know is that you're not a student/about to be student at Manchester Metropolitan, yet you're here. Typing away in your little bedroom. Insulting people with apparent ''facts''. Is insulting people via the internet boosting your confidence? I hope so. As you're boasting about your apparent medicine degree at the University that you haven't actually mentioned as of yet. Bless.

You mean this? That's not a Nobel Prize. It's not even prestigious but I guess by Manc Met's standards it is lol.
