Does anyone study zoo biology?

Hey  i'm very interested in the zoo biology course at nottingham trent.

I love the modules.. they sound great and they are similar to the modules i study in my current course. I love exotics and they seem to specialise in exotics studies.
I was just wondering if someone could tell me what the course is like from a students point of view?

Also, i would live at the brakenhurst accomodation if i went to ntu... what's that like? it looks quite nice on the videos  does it cost alot to travel into nottingham on the bus? how much?

Final question... I currently study National Certificate in Animal Management.. i will leave with 240 points from that.. and i study some additional qualifications that will probably top up my ucas points to 260... do you think i will be excepted onto the course? because they ask for national diploma or biology a-levels.

thankkkyou

Don't know anything about this course really although at one time I nearly did a course in Zoology, now gonna do astrophysics next october (wildy different subjects but I have a great interest in both and I'm happy studying either),

Yeah it just goes on points really, so if your diploma is merit/distinction or whatever you need and the points match up in a suitable diploma you have nothing to worry about! If you meet the requirements they'll give you an offer I'm sure.

Please reply someone  I really need some info on what it's actually like on the zoo biology course.. whether there are any students there that before uni had a national certificate qualification? and about brackenhurst accomodation? If i get accepted, I will be moving to nottingham from far away sooo its a BIG decision soo I want to know as much as possible.

I'm on the last year of this course - it's pretty good I've enjoyed it. The programme leader is really good and very approachable and helpful. There were a few aspects of 2nd year I didn't enjoy but that was more due to a few actual staff rather than the course itself. Hopefully stuff we have complained about will be sorted soon as it is still a relatively new degree (I think I'm in the 3rd group so the first grads finished just before I started). And the accommodation is really nice, I lived there for 2 years, but from what I hear it's quite expensive now.

I started Zoo Biology at Brackenhurst, but quit soon after because I didn't like it. It is very career focused, so if you want to go into that line of work it's really good, very helpful for considering future careers too. All the modules are pretty interesting. Very focused on exotics, we got to go to the zoo in freshers week too ^^ Not much animal handling/practical work but you can visit or volunteer at the animal centre whenever you like, they have soooooo many species it's amazing.

Beware of Brackenhurst though. If you are an internet freak you'll hate living on campus, the internet connections are -that- bad. It would be worth considering living in the city and travelling to uni, depending on how well you wake up in the mornings! Maybe even private accomodation in Sherwood or elsewhere on the bus route, a lot of people I know at Brack dislike how remote it is up there. (private vs uni accomodation: private is much cheaper, but a little less social, i.e. you'd have to make the effort to join in freshers week etc. rather than have it thrust at you lol, but really at Brack and other uni digs you're set up in flats of 6 anyway, it's not like you're on a corridor with dozens of other people like at other unis)

Brack en suite accomodation (there's not much shared accomodation, and 2nd-3rd years usually get that first) is only a few years old, it is really very nice inside, good size rooms, nice furniture, any problems they'll come fix it straight away

The transport company messed things up this year, but hopefully they'll sort it out and travel should be £199 for unlimited travel on all nct buses and trams all year, if you only go out occassionally though this year was £4.00 return for students to city.

Brack is very small, if you want night life your only choice is the student bar, unless you walk a mile into Southwell to go to a local pub. Although the buses do run late Friday and Saturday nights (though the big student night in town is Wednesday).

thankyou soo much for replying everyone. you've really helped me out.

Well, im travelling about 3 hours to nottingham trent uni on saturday to see if I like it  I hope it's everything it's made out to be on the website.

I love the fact that its in the countryside.. I'm not a big partier or anything soo it will suite me just fine to be in the countryside. The internet problem will suck abit because i'm so far away from my family and friends if I go there. I think I will miss my pets the most :frown: it sucks that uni don't let you have pets in your room.. I can't see my snails or leopard gecko being any harm but oh well :frown:

I'm not enrolling this year.. because I'm silly.. i decided to go and study a BTEC qualification in animal management instead of going to sixth form with my friends. If there were places left on the national diploma course I would have been able to go to uni.. but i had to take the national certificate instead.. and I only have 240 UCAS points. So I have to go to study AS levels for a year.. and when i go to uni it will cost loads! :O

I'm really looking forward to the zoo biology at NTU.. mainly because it specialises in exotic species.. all the other uni's i looked at are obsessed with invertebraes and sea creatures.. I really love reptiles and amphibians soo it will be awesome ^ ^

I was wondering... does NTU have one of those programmes that allow students to study abroad at any point during their course?

also, has anyone been on the final year trip.. to africa is it? how was that? and how much were they charging? I think i'll have to start saving for that now lol

Hello

I have a question, or a few. What's NTU like? In terms of the 1) people, 2) uni and its facilities 3) societies and all that like uni experience type stuff and 4) the actual area. (I was told something about NTU being in an area full of chavvy people and stuff and that you'll have annoying chavvy troublemakers trying to start fights or etc
Also what's the ntu population mix like? Is it a mixed population or is it for example mostly white people?

Also has anyone studied Zoo Biology at NTU? if so, what's your opinion of it? Pro's? Con's?
