    Re: All Questions about Grades!
i really dont think grades are that important only had 2A*s (one of them was art!), and got an offer.
so it doesnt matter how many A*s you have A's are important too.
Also the interview and personal statements are more important if you ask me.

    UMS/UNIT SCORES... how high exactly?
I have heard a lot about needing over a certain percentage of the A-level to stand a good chance of entry. Can anyone fill me in about how Cambridge use individual unit scores and what happens if you get a B in a module? Its quite important because if Oxford do not know how high the 'A' is, then that puts the people with low 'A's' in a better position to apply to Oxford over Cambridge.

Personally, I want to apply for Theology and religious studies at Cam.

Don't be so sure, I did the best in modules I thought I messed up and did below what I expected in modules I was confident about. Results day always springs up surprises.

If you do more than 3 AS (exc. the black listed subjects) the 90% marker drops slightly, but of course, encompasses all of your ASs.

For example, phys maths bio general studies, you'd be aiming for 90% in the first 3. phys maths bio chem, like 87% I guess? Don't quote me on that though.

Thats what I'm trying to convince myself .

Don't worry until your results come out and even if they aren't as high as 90% average you should still apply. Obviously 100% across the board is better than just scraping As but there are still plenty of people who get in despite fairly mediocre results by the standards of other applicants

I thought Oxford (and everyone else) got to know the scores now as well through UCAS? But could easily be wrong

Re: UMS/UNIT SCORES... how high exactly?
The reason people think this is because of the potential for auto-pooling. With 3 A's applying for Theology you will stand a fair chance. It seems to be more the case for the sciences than anything else. Most people do not get an A in every module, they arent going to turn you away for getting a B in one module. If you are on target for 3As then apply. You said yourself that you want to syudy Theology at Cambridge - you cannot do that if you dont even apply.

Just to clarify. You are NOT required to get 90% UMS in order to get an offer, although its fairly obvious that the higher the better.

wait so is it 90%+ in 3 AS levels or 4 AS levels?

would the % be lowered if you did difficult subjects such as physics, maths and chemistry?

    sorry for hijacking this thread!

You don't need +90% in anything, but it wouldn't hurt; just try and do your best. If, for example, you are applying for Physics, try and get very high UMS in Physics and Maths(/F. Maths).

In conclusion, mucho UMS is best. :p:

They say 90% in all subjects to be safe.

    "to be safe"

It is lowered if you're doing more than 3 subjects (not including black listed subjects).

This isn't true in pooling terms, you need to get 90%+ in your 3 most relevant AS subjects (as well as 7 A*s) in order to be pooled automatically.

Well, from experience I was talking from the Medicine open day... there's no guarantee of pooling in Medicine, and yet he said (sci admissions tutor at emma) 90% = safe.

Haven't you contradicted yourself in your statement that "there's no guarantee of pooling" yet "90% = safe"?

Not "safe" as in you're guaranteed pooling, safe as in below 90% is dodgy.

His words, not mine... 90% = safe. In other words, above 90% won't do anything for your application, but below 90% will have an impact (a negative impact, I haven't muddled my words).

I was told that your 4th subject is pretty much ignored, with the average over the most relevant three subjects taken into acoount

This is what I was told as well, that the primary focus are your three most relevant subjects and anything else is bonus.
