Ive just had a similar placement myself, elderly medical.

Im assuming this is your first placement?
Dont be afraid to get stuck in, early on in my training i found the HCAs to be invaluable to me, teaching me the essential workings of the ward. Having said that, know your limits, dont do anything you are unsure about, ask to be shown etc instead.
Dont be afraid to ask questions, spend days with various people (on your ward could be physios, OTs, diabetic specialist etc)
If you've not worked in care before use this as an opportunity to gain the fundamentals to nursing, opposed to jumping straight in with the real nursing suff (if that makes sense)

I was a bit hmmm about my elderly placement but in the end i came to enjoy it. I found it hard work and it really did have its ups and downs but its also rewarding in a sense.

I hope you enjoy it.
