M2 - momentum/projectile

A shell of mass 0.5kg is projected from a point on horizontal ground with velocity (15i + 80j) m/s, after 5 seconds there is an internal explosion in which the shell splits into 2 parts of mass 5kg and 15kg respectively. Immediately after the collision A has a velocity of 10jm/s, find the velocity of B immediately after the collision?

Okay, so first of all I used UVAST to find the vertical velocity of the shell at 5 seconds:

t=5, u=80, a=-9.8 giving v = 31

As horizontal component remains constant, this gives (31j + 15i) m/s as velocity of the shell.

Using conservation of momentum : 1/2(31j + 15i) = (5*10j) + 15(v)...

Which gave me the wrong answer :frown:...
What puzzles me is how a shell of 0.5kg can split into two masses, one of 5kg and one of 15kg.

Looks like an error in the question.
