Re: Digital Interaction Design - 2011Yeah fair enough, and btw I must say that is a real accomplishment, GSA is an absolute brick to get into, that must feel great! But of course DIxD is going to be way better(Original post by Lannie447)
I have no idea :P I've not met a single person doing Product Design to ask!
Well I'm not that fussed... I mean at least I get an Advanced Higher, and my art teachers get to tell their friends that they got a pupil into the GSA.
Were you pushed to choose the straight up art courses like I nearly was? What have you been doing all year then?
DIxD seems to fit in perfectly with a lot of people! I can see it being really good because everyone seems to have such a passion for the subject (I guess that's because it is a pretty obscure course...)
I agree, the career path out of DIxD seems really awesome... I was so excited when I read about Calum Pringle who now works for Canonical because I have been using Ubuntu for the last year and really love it and can't imagine a better job than working for them! (also, isn't it a weird coincidence!)
Orkney is a great place to live, a lot of people hate it but I love it! We have a small 6th year (30 peeps) and we're all pretty close and then when you're bored you just take a stroll down the street and run into tons of people you know
How do you like where you live?
x
! Yeah pretty much, there was a lot of influences on straight expressive art because thats what all the teachers specialize in. Well I went away for 2 months with a friend to New Zealand and then Malaysia and went around Hong Kong and Singapore, luckily he has relatives in all those places so we stayed with them. However it cost me 4 months full time work, and now its all gone haha. Yeah it is really obscure! Whenever someone asks what are you going to study, I say "Digital Interaction Design" and they're like......huh? So I try and explain and just end up confusing them more haha. Yeah that is really weird! Thats tiny, but must be nice knowing everyone, sounds like a great community feel. In St Andrews, in a region called Fife
, its quiet but its a nice place. x

Re: Digital Interaction Design - 2011I never asked, did you do AH Art too?(Original post by CiaranF)

Ah thanks! Yeah I was pretty excited because of all the hype that my art teachers had created about it, but when they started to try to force me to accept, I realised that I would regret it (one art teacher actually said 'I'm calling your mother!' It was pretty hilarious tbh!)
And wow! I have always wanted to go to New Zealand and Hong Kong! And for you to do them both in on trip, plus some more! Very jealous! Surely it was worth the money? Money's there to buy memories after all, eh?
You're right, it does have a weird name! I think that's why I never even noticed the course before I'd applied... I always categorised art courses with complicated names as a way of saying Turner Prize art, or what's it they call it in ECA? Intermediate Art. Lol.
Yeah it is nice knowing everyone
It's nice that everyone isn't in niches so you can chat to anyone
I know a few people from Fife
You live in the town St Andrews? Isn't it meant to be really expensive to live there? My friend wants to go to St Andrews Uni and she's struggling to find accommodation...
x
Edit: I saw on FB that you accepted Dundee, well done

Re: Digital Interaction Design - 2011Yeah I did it, it was the most relaxed atmosphere of any subject I've ever done! Loads of work of course but the teachers are just like mates, and we got to listen to music and things like that. Hahaha that sounds hilarious! Definitely worth every penny. Yeah I suppose so, have to spend it on something, it may as well be epic trips like that. But don't know what I should do next, or should I just save for Uni....no idea! Something like that, I'm not sure. Yeah St Andrews, it is pretty expensive, probably because all the tourists. The whole town is just restaurants and bars! Loads of rich people live there. Ah that sucks, how come? Do they not guarantee it for first years? I've just applied for accommodation myself, hope I get one of my first choices x(Original post by Lannie447)

Cool
What did you do your units on? Hmm... Well I can't say that my experience was that relaxed. We were told by the teachers that we could only do one other subject this year and had to spend ALL our remaining time in art. That's 25 hours a week! And then on top of that... My teacher told me I should be doing 2-3 hours a night. As you can imagine, it was really stressful
I've really enjoyed these last few months of it though (since I got my Dundee offer) because I have been really chilled out and deliberately not worked that hard at all, but because I worked so hard for the majority of the course I'm now finished quite a bit before the deadline. I guess it's kind of worth it for that
.
Yeah I'm really, really keen for doing something adventurous this summer! I love festivals but the only one I'm interested in this year is Download, and I'm so fed up that I can't make it
so I've been looking at festivals abroad where I could make a holiday out of it. Do you know of any? I'd really like to go to Morocco this summer but I've also been speaking to people on TSR who are going travelling on their own in Europe and are looking for travelling companions. It does seem a bit dodgey though... :/ What do you think?
About St. Andrew's accommodation: I'm not sure... I didn't really understand what she was talking about xD I'm not sure if they guarantee it to all first years because all of the other universities my friends are going to don't...
I applied ages ago, I'm in Heathfield which was my first choice
What did you put as your first choice?
