What if it's your firm choice but you live with in the M25? I really want accommodation but I live in Greater London, Kingston. I live a good 1hour30mins away on the tube though... Does anyone know of anyone living in Greater London that managed to secure a place for accommodation?

I emailed them about the log in details quite a few times this year.. originally they said March and now they're saying before mid April - hope this helps!

If you live within the M25, you have pretty much no chance of getting accomodation. I know people that live as far out as Watford, who still have to commute in daily - which takes them over an hour and a half to get to QM. They have to get trains, busses and tubes just to get here...!

However, there is a girl in my flat who moved in just after Christmas who lives just outside of London. Originally she was rejected 'for having a commutable address' but she was placed on a waiting list, and when people dropped out of halls, she got a place.

Realistically, if you live within the M25, QM is your firm, and you don't want to commute; start thinking about alternative accomodation.

No I think you can actually put a first choice down. I vaguely remember there being some sort of dropdown menu and me selecting Pooley. Could be completely wrong though and it might be a different system this year.

Hey
You can't select which halls you want to live in, instead, you choose a price bracket.

I live in Pooley, which is in the second price bracket, meaning that I have my own en-suite.
I like it. It's the largest halls, so it's very sociable (but on the downside, there is no escaping the noise!).
There are seven in my flat (I'm not sure if this is a standard number for Pooley or not) but we have plenty of kitchen storage, and a cleaner comes in every morning to give it a little sweep and wipe down. The cleaner also cleans your bathroom and hoovers your floor every other week.

My only complaint about Pooley is the fact that in my flat we kinda got shafted with regards to our flatmates. There are alot of internationals in halls but in my flat, American students (who are just here for a semester), outweigh us that are here for the whole year. It's annoying as they have no desire to socialise, and only hang out with their fellow semester abroad students. One of my other flatmates dropped out of uni, and instead of replacing her with someone on the accomm waiting list, her room was empty; and then filled with another international at the start of the next semester.
But this only forces you to get to know other people from nearby flats, so it is a good thing, I guess. I guess that it is all down to luck; you may have amazing flatmates, or awful ones. So that complain isn't Pooley specific.

IMO, paying extra for an ensuite isn't really worth it and I wouldve been more than happy to have been given accom in the lower price bracket.
That said, I would not have liked to be living in Albert Stern or Ifor Evans (lower price bracket) as they aren't near the student village, are really, really run down and not as nice as more expensive halls. My friend even has bars on his window like a prison cell, and a graveyard directly out of his window... Maynard and Varey are nice though

Woah, I've written loads. If you want to know anymore just ask

Wow! Thankyou so much  So nice to hear some proper detail about accommodation!
Now this may sound like a strange question (and I really hope no one reading this takes offence, it's honestly not meant in an anti-ethnic/racist way!) but I was just wondering what the racial make-up of the Halls is. I think it would be really great to mix with different cultures etc... but does this actually happen? QMUL seems to have a rep on tsr as being heavily populated by Pakistani/Arab people, which I have no problem with, but do most of these people live out of Halls, or in...?
Sorry - a really un-PC question, but it's more my parents asking, and I come from a very "white, middle-class" area blahh blah blahhh. Hope no one takes offence :/

I was thinking to choose the lower price bracket in order to save some more pocket money and I almost started living with the idea I have to share a bathroom with other people but now as you (and other people on here) pointed out the problem that they are not in the student village, once again I should assess the situation... damn, I like being surrounded by people and the idea of being isolated makes me feel like an outsider

Pooley is mainly Americans and white middle class students. But generally, there is a complete mix of people from just about everywhere. I can't comment on other halls, though.
Yeah, there is a stereotype on TSR that QMUL is full of Asians; I'm not going to deny that stereotype, as it is true but instead of that being a negative thing, I have new friends from all over the world; America, Russia, China, Pakistan etc etc...it's great. Many people have preconcieved ideas on here that the various ethnic groups keep to themselves and don't mix but I haven't found that to be the case :h:.

To answer your question, most of my Asian course friends live locally and therefore commute in. However, your experience may differ from mine.

Maynard and Varey are in the lower price bracket and they aren't isolated, they are still on campus and right next to the other halls of residence. However, Albert Stern and Ifor are.
Once again, it just depends on what your flatmates are like as they really will help to shape your experience. I have friends in both Albert Stern and Ifor, and despite them originally hating their accommodation, they have found that as they have amazing flatmates, they are really enjoying their halls experience, and wouldn't change it for the world.
Because they are somewhat isolated from the main student village, I feel that they have a better 'community feel' there. Both Albert Stern and Ifor are smaller then the likes of Pooley and France house, so people get to know each other better etc.

If you get placed there, it really isn't the end of the world. Plus, it is easier to stumble home to Ifor after a night out at Drapers

QM is your firm, right?
Check your junk folder. When I applied all my accommodation emails mysteriously moved themselves there. If not, ring up, and they should be able to tell you your log in details. You could email but you could be waiting a while (a week +) for a response.
Or, just wait for a while, they could be sending out emails in batches.

yeah I did firm them, last year with deferred entry. I just rang them and they said that if I don't receive my details by next week then I should ring admissions. God, I hope i don't ring them next week and they're like you don't even have a place lool
also, do we have to fill in each box, or can we leave some blank... :/

I think you have to fill them all in. I tried to fill in multiple choices eaving out the UoL and non ensuite options but it wouldn't let me.

Also why have they left the 2010-2011 accommodation option there?

I filled in all the boxes :P
