Are mental people crazy in heaven?
Religious types, in whatever view you have of a heaven, would people with severe mental problems still be crazy in heaven and would they even be allowed in? Especially if they've been mad from birth not dementia in old age, because then they couldn't have even have clasped on to any of the religions properly.

Re: Are mental people crazy in heaven? This was in my mind when making the thread but I'd consider that deluded and I'm thinking more of padded cell.(Original post by aarora)
Isn't it crazy to believe in heaven? -
Re: Are mental people crazy in heaven?
I'm not religious at all but I can't understand why, assuming god is all loving etc, he would discriminate against someone simply for being ill; also, just being "severely mentally ill" doesn't necessarily mean you cannot understand religion or anything. In fact many very intelligent and philosophical people have suffered mental illnesses because they think so deeply. Equally, mental illness is just an illness; why would God discriminate against someone with cancer or asthma?

Re: Are mental people crazy in heaven?
AFAIK, the Bible doesn't specifically address his subject. Perhaps partially relevant however is in the Bible when David's child dies, he says "I will go to him, but he will not return to me" (Somewhere in Samuel). This suggests that even though the child had no idea about God/Jesus/Heaven/etc, David would still meet him in heaven - some people take this and apply it to other similar situations, for example mental illness. In the case of someone who led a 'normal' life and later on had a mental illness though, many people argue that God will judge them based upon their life up until they, ahem, lost their mind...
Just my two pennies, from a sort of Christian point of view. -
Re: Are mental people crazy in heaven? There are no illnesses, nor unhappiness in heaven:(Original post by Hard.Target)

Revelation 21:4 "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away."
Sheesh...the assumption of the OP is that it does...play the game.Originally Posted by Rzc

Re: Are mental people crazy in heaven?According to the Bible, you wouldn't. Just like you won't be married...if you were on earth...in heaven either.(Original post by kerily)
I like to think that I wouldn't have depression in some form of afterlife, but I would still be autistic.
Have you read the Bible?

Re: Are mental people crazy in heaven?I have. I'm not a Christian in that I don't follow any form of dogma or organised religion, but I do believe in some form of deity/higher power/underlying logic to the universe/etc.
Do you mean that I wouldn't have depression, or I wouldn't be autistic? The latter is a pretty integral part of my personality, and I'd be quite unimpressed if it went away; I'd be an entirely different person. But not having depression would be lovely
Although I'm hoping that that will come with time anyway.

Some might say a lot of the prophets were showing signs of schizophrenia and presumably they'll be in heaven.
e.g. 1. Abraham being ordered by the voice of god to murder his own son
e.g. 2. Moses being spoken to by a burning bush

Re: Are mental people crazy in heaven?im pretty sure in heaven (of abrahamic religions) it is the completely ideal place and whatever your state of being is - it would be for the best of your satisfaction.(Original post by kerily)

Re: Are mental people crazy in heaven? The whole ethos of Salvation is that we loss our earthly encumberances such as husbands/wives (that's a joke, btw) and illnesses that leave us less than perfect, when we get to heaven.(Original post by kerily)

Susceptability to anger, bigotry, spitefulness etc. are also integral parts of our human personalities but we achieve perfection in the afterlife - unless we've gone to share an eternal home with the devil!
I have tried to inject a bit of levity into my posts, but there is seriousness there too, because of what we are told in scripture.
