Buy that book, not the AQA endorsed one. Also I would suggest making a timeline of events as you go through this course - my teacher taught it by topic, so I was jumping around from decade to decade. Keeping a timeline will help you get your head round things and colour code them, e.g. Blue for foreign policy, red for economics and finance. It also helps you see if there are any links between topics that you can use (you get extra marks for this, e.g. Her last years and the impact the war with Spain had on the economy at home in her dying years). Also, don't focus too much on learning historical interpretations, two or three for each topic should be enough. You should not let historians views argue for you - you make the judgement and use any evidence and supporting views to back it up. During my exam I didn't specifically reference any historians views. I later found out I had used MacCulloch without even realising, and that was the only interpretation I used in the entire exam. I didn't even finish the second question so how I got an A* is beyond me! My teacher said I would've been lucky to have got a B!

Just do everything the mark scheme asks and you will be fine. Now get off TSR and get reading for your coursework! :P

Elizabeth's Religious Settlement of 1559

I'm got an exam question to answer, which questions whether the Elizabeth's religious settlement was passed easily.

I can't think of argument/points which suggest that it was passed easily.

Can anyone help? :smile:

#To suggest that it was difficult to pass, I plan to mention the Catholic/Puritan response.

Given its moderacy it didn't provoke outright rebellion from other side of the spectrum, it was a bloodless coup. While all but one bishop stepped down, there were no public executions of them as there were when Mary tried to reinstate Catholicism in a Protestant backlash. They may have grumbled that it wasn't far enough but they saw it as a step in the right direction and many didn't realise (maybe even Elizabeth herself) that this was near the full extent to which Liz was willing to move towards Protestantism. Likewise on the Catholic side the step down of almost all bishops left a lot of open positions to be filled with people on her side whom would all then hold political sway, many already seen as heroes having fled during Mary's reign (I can only recall names of those executed under Mary and serving under Ed and Henry atm it's been a while since I studied the reformation, but it shouldn't be too hard to look up).

Another point might be that the Pope did not excommunicate her for it, which in turn allowed Catholics to live in relative peace at not thinking they were called religiously to oppose Elizabeth by the head of the church. All in all, quite the elegant political move.

That should be enough to get the ball rolling for you.

I wouldn't be too aggravated, I was told I had an A 'probably' so I went into the exam kinda thinking that, only on results day did I discover I'd got a B from external moderators. Luckily my exam grade bought it all up but if I'd have known I had the B I may have put extra revision in.

Can someone help me create an intro, and writing frame of main points with detail and historical debate for this question please? The Church of England was only a half reformed church in the years 1559-1603, assess the validity of this view.

I dont know if you still have your notes and stuff but I'm sitting this exam in summer and if you still had them, they could be really useful!

hey i came across this thread, I'm doing that exam this june, and I know it's a long shot but do you still have the 40-45 mark essays, it would be good to see some other essays of a high standard to improve my own, and i hope you did really well in the end by the way!
