Can I say this counts for medicine work experience?
Basically, I'm one of few students at my school who has been chosen for a medical placement during the easter holiday at Oxford university, we get to talk with a top neurosurgeon and see the work he does, get a tour of the medical facilities, do research related tasks, and some other things, i plan on doing proper hospital volunteer work too, but would the above count as something i could mention in a personal statement as work experience?

If you've learnt something from it and you can apply it to medicine and you have the space in your PS, then why not?

    Yes.
However, to stand apart from the 2000-3000 other applicants applying to each medical school, you may want to do at least 2 weeks work experience over the summer hols.
And you might want to spend some time in a caring environment, like an old age home or working with the disabled. Many universities use these, along with your spectacular grades, to choose their medical students
