Re: Golf ThreadLol fair enough. I've had my fair share of losses on the golf course, although recently I was playing stableford 2v2, me and my playing partner were getting thrashed, 7 points behind after 9 holes but came back to draw the match, scoring 7 points on the 17th. I love how in golf even though you're playing like a muppet at one point you can bounce back the next hole. It's never over till it's over.

Re: Golf Thread
The final major is underway - Stricker's leading last time I checked.
I think McIlroy, on the back of his success in the States is up for contention but also because I hear this course is abit straightforward that one of the English boys will do good, hopefully Westwood. He's turned into a part time comedian in press conferences to relax him ahead of ending "the big one" wait. -
Re: Golf ThreadFar from it, course it set up tight hence Steve Stricker -7; straitest driver of the ball along with Davis Love.(Original post by Aky786UK)

Re: Golf Thread
Does anyone else think that this is definitely the lesser of the majors? It just seems like something of a poor facsimile of the US open. I know its on a parkland course blah blah blah.
Why should 3 of the 4 majors be in the US anyway, when they have less than 50% of the world's top players? Demote the PGA, start a European Open instead. -
Re: Golf ThreadI agree in that this seems like the lesser of the majors! But in terms of holding this open elsewhere, where do you suggest? I mean near enough every european country does have their own 'open' for the european tour, Spanish Open, Portuguese Open, German Open etc. Just wondering where you think the other open could be held?(Original post by py0alb)

Re: Golf ThreadI think a general "European Open" that rotates around the best courses in Europe (excluding the UK). You could put it on a cycle around 8 different countries if you like.(Original post by littlehobbit)

Re: Golf ThreadYea okay, fair enough, good idea, I think it would need to have a really big build up to it too, I mean I didn't feel like this one did?!(Original post by py0alb)

Re: Golf ThreadI personally don't think this is the "lesser" major. The reason why there are three majors in the US is due to the fact that most of the top players (regardless of nationality) play the PGA Tour. A lot of the big money tournaments are on the PGA. That's not to say golfers cannot partake in both Tours (or more, Oosthuizen's on the Sunshine Tour as well as the other two), but what's the point in going here, there and everywhere every week (Donald is a prime example).(Original post by py0alb)

With McIlroy defecting to the PGA from the European Tour, the only world class golfers that solely play the European Tour are Westwood and Kaymer. -

Re: Golf ThreadWow, have to say this was a very exciting PGA tourney! Glad to see the rookie win, though both played very well.
Is it just me being odd or does anyone else wish golfers would botch their playoffs and keep doing sudden death rounds?
No? Okay. Call it schadenfreude... Hahaha

Re: Golf ThreadRoyal Aberdeen is a stunning layout. That course was borderline unplayable today.

Re: Golf Thread
I'm intrigued to get started on playing a sport regularly - mainly because I'm rubbish at football and cricket! - so I'm keen to get into playing golf. It's a sport over the last 2 years I've taken an interest in.
I think there are some golf clubs nearby where I live, so do golf clubs etc do starting out sessions for newbies etc? Can anyone give me pointers on this?

You're best off going down with a friend or two to a municipal par three course and make sure you can hold your own on that first. Then maybe borrow someone's driver and go down the driving range, hit some balls.
If you can go round a nine hole par three course in under 40 and drive the ball 150 yards and reasonably straight, then you're ready for a full course.
A complete beginner on a full sized golf course is just a bad idea. It will take you 200 shots, about 8 hours, lose about 30 balls, annoy every other player on the course and probably put your off golf altogether. -
Re: Golf ThreadHping to catch the replay on sky while i revise today! I'm happy for Donald winning, though. I haven't played in about 5 weeks either, gf and exams give one no time!(Original post by littlehobbit)
