I am a bit confused by ur question. I assume u r talking about electrode potentials. Zinc doesnt just turn into copper.(Original post by chris101)
when zinc --> copper
the copper receives electrons
so does that mean it has a reduction potential?
n because it has a reduction potential it has +0.34?
y is it positive n not negative?
Finally -
+ means oxidative and - reductive so how cums in dis case da reduction is a minus?
Reduction is gain of electrons so yes copper has a reduction potential only compared to the zinc half cell.
It doesnt have to be negative to be reducing. The copper half cell has a reduction potential which is more negative (or less positive) than that of the zinc half cell, therefore the copper receives the electrons.
PM if u r still confused.
