    Corrupted word file :(
Sorry if this is in the wrong section

Anyway, I've been an idiot and not saved my latest copy of my essay and now I can't open it in word because the file is corrupt? How did that happen? Most importantly is there any way I can open it?

Help please it was nearly finished aswell

Erm, goto word, file > open > click your file > Select the file name, but don't open the file. Instead, go to the bottom-right of the dialog box, and hit the dropdown, and choose Open and Repair.

    Hope this helps.

Only works for word 2002 and upwards.

I tried that but it says the file cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents

Try this then, go back to that open dialog box, click your file, go down to 'file type', see if there is a "recover text from any file" option.

you could also try opening it in a plain text program and see it if you get anything off that

BUT before you do that, go buy an external HDD to back up all your work too so you dont have this issue again

In future, you could try backing it up online if you don't want to buy an external. Things like dropbox, or even just emailing it to yourself (or copy it into an email). I hope you manage to finish your essay soon
